1983 Honda Ballade

PostPosted: Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:01 pm    Post subject: Another Acclaim owner saying "hello" Reply with quote

Here's a newbie. I've been into Acclaims foir nearly 5 years and I'm on my 5th Acclaim. I've still got my 2nd and 3rd Acclaims. A Civic owner who has put an Acclaim engine in his car pointed me in this direction so I decided to join the forum. As "our" cars are simlar it makes sense to join forces. I have the knowledge, wisdom and experience of the Acclaim guru which I'm sure will apply to the Civic also. The first car I bought after passing my driving test back in 1991 was a 1979 Civic which had a 1200 engine mated to a 2 speed Hondamatic gearbox.

I'll introduce my Acclaims (I have a Dolomite 1850 but that's outside the scope of this thread)

First up is my 1983 HL which was named Becky because of the plate. She was my daily driver from 2005 until 2007 when I run her out of MoT. She's been parked up ever since except for a 10 mile run from my parents' drive to her current resting place. I did some welding to her but she became a donor for the rest of my Acclaims. I'm been able to replace the bits I robbed and one day this car will live again. She's mechanically sound.

Next we have Blue who is a 1983 CD Triomatic named for her colour. She had 22,600 miles on the clock when I bought her in 2007. The brakes were refurbished and the fluids were replaced and she passed the MoT. I replaced the fuel tank and the carbs but I'm still having problems with the car to this day. I have a replamecent fuel tank to fit and I'll be flushing the fuel line and hopefully the fuel problems will be finally solved. The car has just gone past 46,000 miles and only needed a couple of track rod ends for the last MoT.

Finally we have Becky II a 1983 HLS who was also named for her plate. I bought this car two weeks ago for just £100 and came with 3 weeks MoT and a month's road tax. I put her in for the MoT and she passed without even any advisories. She only has 56,000 miles, runs as sweet as a nut and starts up on the button.

Make sure you get some whisky first for a good night's rest! But not too much, excess alcohol can disrupt REM sleep. A good rule of thumb I always use is that if the room's still spinning, even when you lay down, then you've gone too far! Wink

If I'm flat on my back on the floor and can't hang on, then I'm done for the night!
