Restoration Blackbullet Civic RS replica......kind of

Unread post by Blackbullet »

I've always wanted a Civic RS (Haven't we all?) I've always wanted one in YR22 sunset orange but given the chances are slim of me finding and importing one from Japan I decided to make a replica of sorts. It wont be mechanically the same or even close to 100% cosmetically but I have collected enough RS bits over the years to at least give a nod to the style of the original RS. The project ties in nicely with my civic which was getting overdue for some TLC on the body anyway so I handed it over to our resident Honda restorer here in the UK, Simon 8)

Heres' the story in pictures.......

Chassis stripped and blasted using a dust free blasting system.

Typically with the 1st gen civic there was some rot to address in the lower rear arch. Again this was cut out and repaired by Simons expert hands.

The right hand side had suffered a huge impact 30 years ago when a motorcycle hit the car. Back then the rear 1/4 was bashed out and filled. Quite a poor repair but at least it kept the car from being scrapped.
It was time to make a proper job so the sill ( rocker ) and rear 1/4 panel was completely cut out.

Civic RS replica......kind of

Unread post by Blackbullet »

Another busy day building the civic. Brake booster and brake lines installed along with many new old stock parts fitted including hood catch, radiator expansion bottle, voltage regulator, ignition coil and main fuse. The wiper motor and cowl also got fitted after being restored. The front ARB got some new poly bushes and the doors were treated to some new old stock door seals. I got the door cards on and did some work preparing the engine. Its all coming together nicely now

Here's a work of art ready to be installed in my 1st gen civic. Its a 2nd gen five speed transmission. It was dipped in the a cleaning bath, stripped and had all the bearings and gears checked and was then rebuilt with a Mfactory helical limited slip diff. After the rebuild it was expertly finished by the hand of Simon. Cant wait to install it. 8)
