aside from the '75 ED1 and ED2...

What is the difference between an ED and an EM?

In terms of Block and Head with specific reference to swapability...

Will a 76 ED3 block take a 80 EM1 head? or vice-a-versa

I'm trying to make sense of this for my FAQ page I'm building... (I'm sure I'll use that sentence a lot in the next few months.)

And what in the ED / EM families is the hot swap combination?

thanks
Paul

Yep.... they will. I've tried it already and I just finished building a EM1 block with a ED head on a 77 civic with a GM 5spd
It's just that a Em1 head on a ED block puts the valves closer to the piston (I used playdough) and it piched through but still turned over without binding the rachet. But It will sure breath better (the cams won't swap!! The aux valve lobe hits the head!) Then I would need a '4 port' manifold and a 3-bolt exhaust manifold 'A' pipe.

So the ED valves clear the stock EM1 pistons no sweat? This is a question I've been pondering.
