hey its me again, i know i have alot of questions. anyways, i have a need for a higher amp alternator in my car due to a stereo system .
a problem arose one day while i was minding my own businees, trying to convert from my stock alternator to a GM 1 wire set up. in most cases, you can just eliminate the external voltage regulator and wires and hook up a 1 wire to the battery and it will work. however on an '80 civic, the fuel pump is hooked up through the regulator and the car will run until the fuel bowl runs dry. so then i ran a lead to the fuel pump from the ignition, and tried to crank. it worked for a second, and my cd player went crazy ejecting disk and turning on and off by itself. i was just wondering if anyone has encountered anything like this or put a later honda alternator on .

I've actually had a custom winding done on my alternator. (haven't installed it yet, going in this weekend)

They guy seems to think he has boosted it from a stock 50A to somewhere in the neighborhood of 80+ amps. I will still be using the stock voltage regulator. I need the amperage for my rally lights.

I'll let you know how it works after this weekend.

If you are in the Portland, Oregon area, it was PMX Alternator over off 82nd Ave and Johnson Creek Blvd. whole rebuild and rewire was $125. I've other fellow rally people that I have had them do their alternators and have had 0 problems. And they run lots of lights, an internal compter and we bash the heck out of the cars on the logging roads.

I'll scrounge up a number if you are interested.

Paul

Paul, Any idea if they can do the same sort of thing for the 1st gen civic? I'm looking for an alternative for my 75 and this sounds like it might be a good way to go. Let me know, I am in the Portland area, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to at least call for a quote.
