Any one out there know of custom... or how to modify existing struts to get really decent inserts under these cars?
Have any of these parts around not being put to use?

KYB still makes a strut for the 2nd gen. civic. The part # for the front is 231010

If anyone is interested...
I have been working on using 1st Gen Prelude changeable strut housings on my 2nd Gen Civic
4-DR. The rears are a virtual drop in...the fronts are much bigger in dia. than Civic, so I am trying to fit the Prelude uprights, which appear to be workable. they are heavier than the Civic units...and because the stud for the lower controlarm-balljoint is stouter on the Prelude I'll have to use the Prelude piece here also, not sure yet but I think it is the same length as the Civic one ...I hope, I hope, otherwise It will be cut and weld time.
The Preludes have Konis, and at one time Bilstein Gas inserts available for them ...plus assorted lesser choices...since no one makes GOOD struts for 2nd Gen anymore.
Buy the way...the 4-dr and the Hatchback use the same suspension frt and rear.

OK kids...if anyone is interested, here is what it
takes to make this work:
82Prelude front and rear changeable struthousings
(all 79-82 I have seen have these)...Prelude front spindles...Prelude lower control arms...near as I can tell, though strut height etc. vary a bit here and there, all put together maintains necessary susp. geometry...may lower the car slightly if you use the Prelude springs...fronts are designed to handle the weight of a 1751 motor power steering etc.
Koni inserts are still to be found.

If anyone is interested
I have a 1981 2dr civic which I have been modifing for the past year and a bit.

suspension
I have made my own front shocks by shortening the shaft and body of the shock by 3 inches (I used struts out of a honda city as these have smaller diameter springs) and refilling the shock with high grade oil. The back is a little easier just get another set of front city shocks remove the spring platform and attach at the height needed to clear the wheel, these shocks are about 2 & a half inches shorter. I have used Honda city front springs in the front and rear cut to the desired stiffness.

Brakes
If you want big front brakes get the disks and calipers of a 1987-89 Honda prelude these bolt straight on NO MODIFICATION NEEDED.
For the rear if you get a set of rear discs, calipers and the caliper mounts from a 1984-86 prelude. You get the caliper mount modified slitely (2 holes line up for mounting to the rear stub axle but you have to drill them out to a slitelybigger diameter then you have to drill 2 new holes for the other bolts to go through.
Once you have this bolted up you just put the disc on to the stub axle put the tappered roller bearing on do up the nut and instant disc rear end.(note, you have to use the caliper from the right hand side of the prelude on the left hand side of the civic and vice versa the caliper goes on the front) To get the hand brake to work you have to cut the cable holder form the old drum system and mount on the hand brake lever then get some new hand brake cables made each one has to be about 5cm long approx.

Engine
I have a 1983 Honda city Turbo engine runing B20a prelude injectors a series 5 RX7 intercooler front mounted, polished stainless steel intercooler piping a K&N pod filter a 2.5inch exhaust straight off the turbo into a EVO 4 mufler with a 6inch dump pipe(running 18-20psi)

QUESTION

does anyone know what is needed or what you have to modify to fit a 1600 twin cam injected engine out of an 89 civic into a 1981 civic??????????

my name is david and i was given an '82 civic hatchback 1500dx for my birthday a year ago by my grandma. the car was kaept in a garage for 13 years and is absolutely perfect and has 32,000 original miles on it. at first i didint like it but then i lowered it, put exhaust on it, and threw on some real nice 16inch rims. the car looks really cool. however, i want to get the car into the low 15s in the quarter mile so i need some information on engine mods. i also need to get new struts for the front and smaller diameter springs so it can go lower. i chopped the struts and the springs in the front and the car is about 3/4" from the gound to the crossmember. is there a way to get the car to do two wheel burnouts rather than right only? if anyone has information or needs body kits for 81-83 civics email me at typeS82@hotmail.com. thanks
