The design is copy written.. surely that adds a very expensive legal dimension to the sale of the mould?

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Sunday, January 16, 2005 - 05:55 pm:

If they are not planning on re-making the air dams, then why not sell the molds? Seems like its now or never. Just seems like they want to hold onto the last of the market. Kind of selfish, but I guess its their choice to sell or not.

By Dave (206.172.136.168) on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 07:05 pm:

John you could'nt have said it better. When you look at it us guys and our little collection of cars just does not mean enough $$ for them so we are not worth it.
Thats when we take things into our own hands and make our own and make them even better and let them miss out on our hard earned money.

By John S. (66.142.232.3) on Saturday, January 15, 2005 - 12:26 am:

Now, Is that one of the most stupid things you've ever heard? They are sitting on the moulds, have a market, limited, but still a market, and will do nothing...exactly the kind of Bull •••• that has made this country(USA) what it is today. As a citizen in good standing I have the right to say so! There is just not enough profit in it. But not only will they not do it...they refuse to give someone else the opportunity to take a risk they themselves are not willing to take. NOW my friends, THAT is what is called MISERLY.

This is taken from some emails that I had with Electrodyne. They seem pretty dead on the subject.

Me:
I have been told that you have discontinued the spoiler for the 1 st generations civics. I was wondering where you got them from and if I could get some contact info to see if they could do another run. I am a member of a civic club and they are still in demand. I personaly was finishing my car and waiting to get one from you guys but now it looks like im outa luck. Please help.
Dave Brittain

Them:
We were the manufacture of these. There will not a be a future run of the parts.

Me:
Did Electrodyne buy the rights from Kamei? Im just wondering what options we have available to us. Thanks again

Them:
We purchased the moulds from Kamei.

Me:
Are the moulds for sale?

Them:
No. The molds are copy written and will not be sold. Sorry.

The problem with both Kamei, and FOHA is that they were both exclusively imported by Electrodyne, in the Wash D.C. area, I have actually been to their showroom-warehouse when it was close to, or on Eisenhower, but that was almost 20yrs ago. Anyway since they don't have any left, it's just up to whatever trickles out of peoples attics and garages at this point. All the more reason to either make a mould, or design a new one. I think that 175.00 was too high(kinda like the Tar-baby sydrome), I almost hope the guy who bought it owns a 1200, but then I wouldn't want to see HIM put through all that trouble.

By Don (63.135.203.136) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 08:44 pm:

No just 1200 I'm working on a cleaner design to test this year but so far have got as far as cutting some foam with a hot wire.

By Dana (207.81.26.8) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 08:35 pm:

I agree Don do you have the mold for the CVCC.

By Don (63.135.203.136) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 07:59 pm:

If they are planing on using it for a mold there paying way too much. Once even one reproduction is made and shipped, what do you think the rest of us will do... you got it pull a mold for about 50 dollars in materials.

By Dana (207.81.26.8) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 07:29 pm:

I was bidding and I have both 1200 and CVCC,I am amazed as I figured it would go for $120 tops
If someone has the mold I am interested in a part. Thanks Dana

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 07:17 pm:

Well, about one hour left and the seller DID leave an open message in reply to a bidder's question in the auction. The seller said that the air dam would work if mounted under the bumper...and get that, he even said openly that it's 6 inches longer for CVCC!

It's now at close of $175 U.S. - tad too much and I'd bet the high bidder (assuming if have a 1200 civic) would be unhappy once realized will need lots of work to get it fit!

Unless it come out being a CVCC owner - no problem at all.

By Ted (63.224.195.169) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 04:22 pm:

The seller is setting himself up for some negative feedback if a 1200 owner is the winning bidder, tries to fit this thing on, and finds it doesn't.

By John S. (68.93.178.164) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 12:58 pm:

I'm not in a position to bid on this as I will be at work when it hits, but I would have paid 100.00 for it...they cost that much when new. However if you look at the bidding history at least two of the bids ...and probably more, were put there by 1200 owners, and that drove the price higher. Since the seller was notified of his "mistake" I think we must assume it was not a mistake at all. I just wish that the guys bidding on it , if not aquainted with this site, were. I saw a few "names" I didn't recognize in the bidding. I also hope that some unsuspecting 1200 owner doesn't win the bid, because he will not be happy, and might be krazy enough to try and MAKE it fit.

By John S. (66.143.53.178) on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 11:19 pm:

Hey, by the way guys I have sent the seller of this item two Emails telling him in no uncertain terms it will not fit a 1200, and he has yet to answer either of them, or edit his add. Someone else named David sent him an Email and basically told him the same thing. The seller is either hardheaded, or a liar, and just wants to sell it to the highest bidder...driven higher by both 1200 and 1500 owners bidding on it, and doesn't care if he is screwing someone or not.

By John (67.180.167.118) on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 09:28 pm:

John S., I agree with you. I guess I should have added that I would not recommend it. For myself, I would never do such a thing- it would be a mess. But if there is one thing I've learned over the years, it's that many people have expectations that are much lower than mine. :)

By sdcvcc (68.101.197.93) on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 10:18 am:

Does anyone want some copies made of either airdam? I am a fiberglasser and I can make some for pretty cheap, but using good aero grade supplies.

By John S. (66.142.42.206) on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 01:50 am:

Oh, and John, I don't think you could get a 1200 spoiler to fit the 1500 even with modifications, you'd end up cutting the thing in several pieces and though ABS can be mended it would be a hell of a job to put the thing back together again. It takes more than just glue.

By John S. (66.142.42.206) on Saturday, January 08, 2005 - 01:44 am:

Well, they look the same, but even in the front they are slightly different. Also they have a reveal molded into the upper part of the 1500 spoiler that goes around the sides and isn't on the 1200 one. In effect they appear the same, but in reality are totally different.

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 10:08 pm:

Ah, now I understand what you are talking about! So the air dam looking at front in middle...looks the same in both, but the sides of the air dams are different in length for a CVCC and a 1200. Do I have that right?

By Yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 08:36 pm:

It's not the valance that is different. It's the side of the fender from the front to the wheel opening. I asked the guy by e-mail but he seemed to think that it would fit both. They look the same unless you are looking at them side by side then you can see the difference. Hood and fenders are longer. It can't fit unless it mounts to the bumper because it wraps around the front side of the fenders to the wheel opening.

By John (67.180.167.118) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:23 pm:

Looks like a 1500 air dam. I seem to remember that only the 1200 got brake ducts, while the 1500 did not.

This air dam will not fit a 1200- at least not without modifications...

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 05:37 pm:

John S, yellowcivic - got a question for you...how different is a 1200 air dam from a 1500 air dam? I can't see how it can be as both CVCC and 1220 front view looks to be the same? I seem to remember that it was said that the CVCC is about 2 and 3/4 inches longer on fenders and hood...does that means the front valance is also longer as well or the same as the 1200 valance?

By yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 08:37 am:

Does that type mount to the bumper? If so it could be made to work in the front or rear of a pre 78 bumper. In the rear it might look okay.

By Don (63.135.203.197) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:32 am:

There are lots of people that have molds for the 1200 one :) John and myself included.

By yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:14 am:

Opps! I meant Electrodyne.

By Yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:13 am:

opps! I ment Electrdyne.

By Yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:11 am:

Kami doesn't sell the 1200 or 1500 anymore. I talked to them and they said no more.

By yellowcivic (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 07:06 am:

I have the mold for the 1200 one. Looks like the 1500 one is very differnet from the 1200 design. Good idea John S.

By John S. (66.136.148.105) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 06:53 am:

How 'bout we don't cut each others throats on this one.
First, it is a 1500 one so don't any 1200 guys bid it up.
Second, how about letting me snag it so I can make a mold from it to make duplicates from.Which if I can get it, I will do.

By David (67.51.80.220) on Friday, January 07, 2005 - 06:06 am:

Can't be for both car can it? It says 1500 on the pacaging in the add.
