yes but taking off cleanly is important.

FYI there is no such thing as start reaction times in hillclimbs, motorkhanas or khanacrosses. You go any time after you and the timers are ready, timing starts when you start moving for hand-held timing or when you cut the timing beam for electronic timing.

By Glenn Biscan (211.30.144.154) on Monday, July 18, 2005 - 01:42 am:

i rather road racing as well. But drag racing has helped some what in me learning to have good take offs for future hillclimbing, motorkhanas and khanacross's that i hope to attend. Last reaction time was 0.001 which is not bad for a 19yr old.

I can now consistently get into the 0.0xx reaction time. There must be some level of skill involved in that

Glen

I in a different age group to you because drag racing leaves me cold. I'd rather watch road racing which definately requires greater skill.

you dont have to hire the track out to attend an off street drag meet. you can simply organise a group of people to attend the weekly off street drags every wed night. 2 weeks ago the nissan silvia club was able to organise enough cars to have a lane to themselves so they can race each other aposed to racing people not from their club. I will attend more events in the future. The ones that interest me always seem to coinside with other things that im doing at the time or are too expensive for my student budget.

So, from what I am reading in this thread I might as well keep my stock exhaust manafold instead of the shorty header that came with my engine. That way I don't have to re-do the exhaust until I get a better hearder.

Does that sound logical?

By jim_mac (211.31.12.66) on Thursday, July 14, 2005 - 04:13 pm:

I would probably crap myself. I've never been on the track before. I attended the timed sprint at Oran park a couple of weeks ago and that style could be a possibility in future. I'll need some decend tyres first though.

Glenn, do you have any idea how much it costs to organise events such as that? Track hire is EXPENSIVE, plus there's permits, officials etc. Anyway, drag racing is dull. Start, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, stop ... how exciting.

BTW, when are you going to turn up to an hccnsw event?

By GlennBiscan (211.30.144.154) on Thursday, July 14, 2005 - 05:13 am:

jim u interested in taking a trip out to the drags to see how your car runs ?

maybe we can get the hccnsw to organise an event.

I see Don, yes well mine is a shorty and I drove into Hurricane Exhausts in Sydney about 6yrs ago and they made the headers while I waited. Not bad service hey.

Jason wanted to know about the air filter - I went to Uni-Filter and the one that fitted in the back plate was from I think a nisson patrol or something similiar, but it was a little thick to fit between the firewall (70mm) so they offered to make up a 50mm one which fitted ok. It cost me $A50 for the filter and about another ten bucks for aluminium plate, some metric rod and a couple of wing nuts. Works great and you just re-soak the foam in oil every so often.

Be nice if I could find a RS header (come on Adrian) and maybe my nice looking header cuold be up for sale

cheers Jim

A quality 4-1 LONG TUBE header boost power even on a mild engine.... Is your header a shorty??? If so thats the problem not the 4-1.

By jim_mac (211.31.12.66) on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 - 03:26 pm:

But they look good.

In the absence of a RS header they will do me for now. I believe that 4 into 1 suits higher revs and that the 4=2=1 would be better. They sound pretty good not overpowering or droning as glenn said.

Jason, I'll give you some detail about the filter & header later I have to go now.

To be perfectly honest, they're not all that much better than the standard manifold ...

By Glenn Biscan (211.30.144.154) on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 - 04:10 am:

i put those 4-1 headers on my car, and i dont think that it made much diff @ all, even with a full 1.75" exhaust and high flow muffler. But it does sound alot better

I got the headers done at Competition Coatings (Robert) at Granville in Sydney. They are a ceramic coating. Glen, this may interest you. Cost $A150.

Finally got the Keihins fitted. I consider myself extremely lucky to first find a set and then to find a couple of parts to make the things work.

I must thank Adrian for all his advice regarding the hoses, fittings, brackets and where to get the gasket kits etc,, (it's good to live close to the guru you can just pop in for advice) The gasket kits by the way are Goldwing GL1000 motorbike fittings and cost me $A75 each but well worth it.

The motor was re-built by Wayne Griffiths. He used my EB1 block and EB1 head which was ported and the valves were modified for better gas flow. A EN1 crank & rods are installed and increased capacity to 1338cc. Watson cam 26/66 and a Hurricane 4 into 1 header included, flywheel lightened and everything balanced.

I had Hanny's Performance in Sydney pull the Keihins apart, clean and fit the new gaskets, install the electronic ignition from EN1 and that's about it.

The car is going great, the responsivness of the accelerator is un-believable and with the cam and torque of the crankshaft cutting in my EB1 is very exciting to drive. I took some pictures

My car is at present at the panel beater getting rid of some hail damage that happened about 25 years ago (it takes me a while to get onto things.......)
