well, i went to a new bone yard today and i saw an old porshe 914 with some sweet old school wheels. they had a large four bolt pattern. does anyone know what the bolt spacing is on these? they would look really nice on the cvcc even though i doesn't move on its own power yet.

I'm not sure of the Porsche bolt pattern but they will not fit any of the Civics. You need 4x120 for the first gens. I think some of the earlier Mazda's (rx-3?) had 4x120 but I don't know of much else

Those rims would probably have the WV Bug bolt pattern (way too big) and would be the wrong offset because 914's were RWD.If you really want nice wheels do the 4x100 conversion. The 4x120 mags are really rare. The only downside to the 4x100 conversion is it is expensive, but you have to keep in mind you are changing the bolt pattern and getting vented rotors brakes as opposed to the solid ones that are stock. Much better calipers (more pad surface area) as well. You have lots more options for wheels if you go 4x100 because it is a pretty standard bolt circle used by Honda, Volkswagen, and many other small FWD cars.

Not sure if its true or not, but a buddy of mine has a 83 nissan 280z and he says his rims are 4x120, I assume he is right, he does know his stuff, has anyone ever tried any other nissan rims?

Sorry but he's wrong. They will not be 4x120, they are most likely 4x114.

Hey Adrian, Im looking into getting some mags for my civic... being as Aussie you might be able to tell me what model cars to look for. I don't really want to do the 4x100 conversion, but i am thinking of getting some 14 or 15 inch pursuit rims fabricated to fit. What do you think?

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Wednesday, March 05, 2003 - 03:10 am:

Coupe 7 & 9, 73-79 Civic, 76? - 81? Accord and Maxda RX5 (I think it is) are the only cars known to use 4x120 stud pattern. You may be lucky and find some Mazda rims but they are none too easy to come by. Your best bet if you want to get rims that big is to get some new ones (several of the wheel manufacturers will drill rims to whatever stud pattern you want) or have some redrilled.
Where are you? If you're interested I have some 15x6.5 5-spoke mags (not sure of the make, would have to have a look at them) that I don't need. The trouble is I've only got 3 so you'd have to find another one :(.

I had a set of 15" pursuit rims made up for my last civic. I also had a mates set of 16" B45 simmons on it for a while off his RX5. Just bought smaller tyres and they were a good fit. For my current project (Gen1 hatch,TurboII motor etc etc) i just bought a set of 14" mazda 929 rims off a 77 model and had them widened and the offset changed. A guy did this for $120 per rim. The only reason I only put 14's on it is the look I was after, moonies+whitewalls, I could only get in 14's.

I had a set of rims custom drilled about 18 months back by ROH Australia, they'll make up blank rims (most styles available) with no holes and drill them however you want. All up ended costing about $2k with pirelli tyres for 16's ( youll have to do a bit of gaurd work).

Spickets, I have a set of 120PCD alloy wheels that you can have for $100. I think they came as an option on Accords at some stage. There's a picture of one here, though mine are painted white. I'm in Sydney if you're interested.

By spickets (144.134.37.146) on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 - 02:56 am:

Andrew, are they 14 inch?

By Kurt Bosnell (Kurt) (142.179.42.204) on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 - 06:43 am:

They look like Accord alloys - 13"

By Nikolaj (194.104.120.3) on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 - 07:55 am:

I've had that style in 12 inch.
Old mazdas have the 120PCD, and it's true most big patterns turn out to be 114.5mm-PCD, to be exact.

By Andrew Fatseas (203.63.44.193) on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 - 03:27 pm:

It's been a while since I've looked at them, but I'm pretty sure they're 13", as Kurt says.

You can buy 14x6 superlites with a 4x120 bolt pattern, pricy, but very nice. Contact Phil at sales@opmd.com

By Nikolaj (62.59.190.58) on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 - 09:14 am:

There is also a Belgian company that makes 15 inch wheels in 120 PCD, they are nicer than the superlites in my opinion. I once, many ages ago, posted a pic of them or a link to that site...

I'll have to dig through all my stuff to find the name, but they were around a 1100 guilders, which is now about 500 euros, new!
