Rubber bits

Civic1200 Discussion Board: : Rubber bits
By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Sunday, March 16, 2003 - 05:28 pm:

From thread "Eb2 hood/bumpers - Eb3 body"

I just called Spectrum Rubber (formerly Peter Jackson's Old Auto Rubber Company) and got current prices on various rubber bits. All prices are in AUS$ and ex. GST.

These are for a 3-door EB1/2/3:
hatch $19.98
doors $47.59ea
door bailey channels $40.18ea
door window outer weather strip $15.16ea
clips for outer weather strip $25.85
rear windows $15.95ea
windscreen $84.36
rear window $84.65

The front screen rubber should fit any model (2-door, 3-door, wagon etc.) and don't have the chrome strips.
He wasn't sure if the rear window rubber was for a 2-door or 3-door, would have to measure it. It'll take about a week to get screen rubbers made.

All the door, hatch and rear window rubbers are pretty standard mouldings and should really be able to be gotten pretty much anywhere. It seems that you guys in the States, Canada and Europe have trouble getting the windscreen rubbers so they are probably the only things you might be interested in.

If there is enough interest I don't mind organising a batch of them. It might be an idea to send a box full to someone (maybe Justin or Don) who can then distribute them locally (would no doubt save quite a bit on postage.)

Here are a couple of closeups of the windscreen rubber (no the screen isn't cracked in the bottom corner, it's just a reflection).

Looks great. I think it looks better without the chrome strip. It'll match tinted windows better.

Very similar prices eh :). The reason ... Scott's Old Rubber Company is an agent for Spectrum Rubber.

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 12:57 am:

One thing to note. The upper hatch seal they list doesn't work. I got one from them once and it was simply the wrong shape and didn't seal at all (when it even stayed in its channel).

By Kurt Bosnell (Kurt) (142.179.42.204) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 08:15 am:

I wonder if they can get the seal for the rear windshield in the trunk models as i'm pretty sure its a different windshield than the hatchback model?

If anyone is intersted in a batch as Adrian has suggested I'm in for a windshield seal.

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 02:53 pm:

As I said, he wasn't absolutely sure which model the rear seal was for, 2-door or 3-door. It'll have to be measured.

By Ramon (208.187.128.33) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 08:49 pm:

I am interested in all the above. Plus a set of your front and rear side markers.

hatch $19.98
door bailey channels $40.18ea 2
door window outer weather strip $15.16ea 2
rear windows $15.95ea 2
windscreen $84.36
rear window $84.65

Shipping is no problem I have a Fed Ex account for you to use.

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Monday, March 17, 2003 - 09:19 pm:

Ok, I'll consider you to be first on the list :). I'm not interested in just getting a few things for one person though so a few more people are going to have to step forward before I even consider it and when it comes time to actually order I'll be needing some money up-front.

I'm not sure if I have any spare front indicators ... might be time for a trip to the wreckers. What "rear side markers" are you talking about? I've seen those huge ugly lights on the rear guards in pictures of US cars and I can only assume you mean replacements for them. Sorry, can't help as Australian Civics didn't have anything at the rear there (just little reflectors under the taillights).

No problem just let me know.

I would be in for a front window seal, actually I would like to get a complete set, for the whole car, cause I wanna be painting this year and new rubber all around (specially the doors) should make the ride a lot better...

I have to check what I can get here, though! But if none is available (as I suspect) I'd like at least the window seal..

By john stallone (Luckyluciano2) (68.104.196.30) on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 - 12:02 am:

i need the two front window rubber chanels that the the window slides up and down between(if they have a name?) for a 79cvcc trunk model and i could use the the door wheather stripping

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 - 02:26 am:

They are called bailey channels and the rubber that goes in them is known as flocking. It's pretty standard stuff so I suspect you should be able to get it locally.

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Thursday, March 20, 2003 - 03:04 pm:

Where is everybody?? I constantly see people asking for windscreen rubbers ... here they are at (if you ask me) a very good price and three people stick their hands up.

By john stallone (Luckyluciano2) (68.104.196.30) on Thursday, March 20, 2003 - 03:53 pm:

im in Arizona USA. should i try at the dealership or specialty shop?

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Thursday, March 20, 2003 - 04:10 pm:

I'd look around for car rubber suppliers, either in the phone book or better yet talk to some local car clubs that specialise in older cars ... they'll know where to go.

By dennis (65.101.0.145) on Thursday, March 20, 2003 - 06:58 pm:

I'm in Az and I just had my windshield replaced by Specialized Auto Glass. They had no problem getting the glass and gasket for my 2nd gen.

By Don (199.2.139.149) on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 06:31 pm:

Adrian, I am in for some spares, were you trying to get a run going? I would be more interested in a LSD('S) if your contact ever gets going?

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 01:11 am:

Getting the screen rubbers etc. is no trouble, just a matter of ringing up and ordering them. I don't mind doing it for you guys, but only if I can do a few at once.

What are you after Don, front screen?

LSD: Last response I got from him several weeks ago was the diff STILL wasn't taken out of his car but was due out the following weekend. No response since then ... I'm going to keep trying as I know a few of you want them.

By Don (199.2.139.240) on Saturday, March 22, 2003 - 09:44 am:

Front and Rear window rubbers, I will kep an eye on this, It would be cool if we could do a LSD and window ruber run at the same time send it all in one box.

By juan salguero (205.188.209.133) on Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 01:50 am:

does anyone know any rubber companies in california ive been looking for the weatherstrip for my right and left door if anyone kow please let me know at oak1now@aol.com

By Don (199.2.139.200) on Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 09:29 am:

The only thing I know of is JC Witney sells some generic bulk strips that dont work like factory, I think Honda still stocks the door weather strips $$$.

By Kurt Bosnell (Kurt) (142.179.35.254) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 06:01 pm:

Anyone know what its worth to have a shop re and re a windshield. I know I'll end up breaking the thing or the seal if I try it. I will likely end placing an order in Australia for new window rubber unless anyone tracks something down in North America. I would have thought the fitting for window seals is pretty generic other than the length but I guess you can't just cut these things.

By Kyle Thomson (24.69.255.236) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 06:48 pm:

Hey Kurt, I just happen to know a place to get them, they can be here about a week after I order them (back east somewhere), same deal as the ones above, they are just plain -no chrome. But the bad news is that they are about $125. So it depends on if time is an issue with you and whether you would rather save a few bucks

By Kurt Bosnell (Kurt) (142.179.35.254) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 09:37 pm:

Wow thats good to know. $125 may even save me money with the Canadian/Australian exchange and shipping. I am in no rush but it is something I will do once the car is on the road. The seals in my 77 are good and never leaked but I can't say the same for the ones in the 78. The front and rear both have some weather cracks and I know the rear windshield seal was leaking for sure. In fact you could follow the water stain to the small puddle underneath the rear seat - hence the old car smell! I suppose I may be able to use some sealant or try to salvage the ones from my 77 but I figure I might as well do it right the first time.

That is good news, I will let you know in about a month. Anyone else around Vancouver looking for seals? Maybe we could place the order all at once.

Kurt

oops my bad, I should have posted this above, but there is supposed to only be 3 left, he said he could get the rears as well, not sure about price or availability on those though

By juan salguero (64.12.96.44) on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 11:05 pm:

i want to get the weather stips for my doors i have a 78 cvcc how much would it come out to do i need the clips too? let me know at Oak1now@aol.com

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 12:55 am:

As it says, AU$15.16ea + postage. The old clips work but new ones are nice (clean, not rusty) :). Expect the postage to be something like AU$15 - $20. There are plenty of currency converters (e.g. oanda.com) you can use to convert to your local currency. I'll try to revisit this stuff next week after I get back from the Honda Clubs' National Meet.

By Adrian (Evocivic) (165.228.11.61) on Thursday, May 01, 2003 - 10:05 pm:

Sorry guys but I just don't have the time to organise all this. If you want rubber bits then I'd suggest you simply get them directly from Spectrum Rubber (they seem to have a decent website now with a very comprehensive product catalogue and ordering system). Prices are as mentioned above.
