Ya its my car but its not all finished yet. I am running a Weber 32/26 down draft with a standard K&N filter. As for engine numbers take a look at the block where it meets the tranny (at the top). They are stamped in there. There is also a gold sticker on the tranny that will tell you what tranny you got.

The first gen motor codes will be

eb1
eb2
eb3 these are the 1200's

EG CVCC 1500

EF - early 1600
EL - 79 & up 1600 (there are a couple of diiferent ELs)

GK - 1751 cc

Hey Kurt is that your car man its nice.... IF i can get the numbers off the engine and transmission could you give me an idea of what it is ... when i got my 1500 cvcc the guy also gave up his whole stash of Sh*# so i got like 4 extra morots 2 whole 2 part 1 blown ... the one i want to drop into my new 1977 1200 is what i was told is an accord motor and tranny (still together) but i dont really know what year it might be 1979 ... good thing is i have lots of spare stuff extra cvcc motor mount stuff and radiator axles so i may have everything i need but just want to clear up what im working with ... also what carb are you running ?

You don't need any of the vaccuum lines coming off the air filter box, just use a K&N. Just keep the vaccuum lines that run off the base plate of the carb (on the intake).

ok awesome... im ordering my carb tomorrow... ive been looking for a header and i did find a turbo off a 2001 vw beetle. but i seriously dont think i would be able to find an intake..anyway as for all the hoses going into the stock air filter..what can i disguard..and what do i need?
(sorry im so unexperienced with all this.. i really dont meen to sound like an idiot)

The Accord motor bolts directly in with no custom mounts needed. A swap into a 1200 does require some things that the CVCC would not require though.

electric fuel pump
shortened torque rod off the firewall (or use one off the Civic cvcc)
extend shifter linkage by 3" (or use one off a Civic CVCC)
use the electronic ignition from the accord
Civic CVCC hoses for the rad

As for trannies you can use the Accord 5 speed as well or a Civic 5 speed. A 1980 Civic 5 speed has the best ratios and the Accord trannies are higher geared. If you use the Accord tranny make sure its out of an 82-83 as the earlier ones use a hydraulic clutch. The 82-83 used the cable. The one thing you must do with the Accord flywheel is have the backside turned down or cut the centre out of the lower mount. If you don't do either it will become a clearance issue - kind of hard to explain until you get it mounted (as I found out :)

wow kurt thanks for all the info i just picked up a 1977 civic 1200 and am planning the accord motor swap with cvcc head ... does anyone know if this is a bolt up deal (will i have to fabricate any motor mounts) ive got most of the wireing for the civic and some on the accord motor can these be pretty much matched up or will it require more work...... also any idea what it takes to go from 4 speed to 5 .... is it just the shifter gate and tranny???? this will be my second civic ..... my first one is a 1975 cvcc 1500 but its never required much work but it runs a two barrell holly carb with a custom throttle linkage and ive been doing well at the local auto cross.... hope to have the 1200 with accord motor running a bit faster... thanks for any and all help ... Jon

p.s. parker and anyone else in the middle ga area when are we going to get together

Ya the EL is a 1600 and the EK is a 1751. The Canadian EL is what you want (non cvcc head). Both these motors produce more HP than the 1200 although they have cast iron blocks as opposed to the aluminum one of the 1200 so they are heavier up front. These engines are said to produce great torque, especially when mounted up to the lower geared Civic trannies. The 1200 does have more hop up potential but for quick power the EL and EK are the way to go.

The Weber 32/36 is a downdraft and are easy to find as they are still mass produced. Check ebay. You need an adapter plate but any parts store could order one in for ya (about $50). Dual Webers are also easy to find but its the manifold that you will have trouble finding. I have been looking for a dual carb manifold for sometime for the EL with no success - only singles (Hint, hint everyone :)

Reground cams are easy to find and headers are harder. Headers for the 1200 are floating around and there is a group trying to do another run through S&S (waiting for more buyers not 'wannabees'). There are headers for the El and EK but are very difficult to find. I have found many places on the Web but they are all gone. Sometimes they do creep up on Ebay-usually cheap. The only ones I have ever seen for the EL and EK were made by Hondo. Pretty cheap but they do the job. Hope this helps. Kurt

EK and EL are motor types......they should bolt right in, then if you want to run webers I run a 32/36, headers for the 1200's are easier to find than for the cvcc's. check the sell adds here, they come up sometimes.

what do you meen by EK or EL? im new on the weber carb thing. and i want to know more. oh and what kind of header would fit it?

By Kurt Bosnell (Kurt) (142.179.32.148) on Monday, July 14, 2003 - 12:22 pm:

If your tight on a budget you try and find an EK or EL out of an old Accord or Prelude. You can usually buy the whole set up for $100-300 and they are 'relatively' easy to swap in.
