Hi Mo

Any ideas for a possible venue? For what it's worth I think Coventry's a good bet. Our transport museum houses Thrust SSC. Only the first car to break the sound barrier!!

Hi Tommy

Like the Japanese writing on the side of that black Civic, what is it and what does it say?

Lamentable parts backup plus a general anti-Japanese snobbery in UK classic car circles has hit these old Civics really hard I think. In my experience it's the bodywork that causes trouble more than the mechanicals. Because bodywork is well-nigh impossible to find in this country your average bodyshop will generally bodge its way through a repair with pop riveted biscuit tin lids and body filler, with results like this:

bodge

This is how I found the car when I obtained it and is a result of 20 years of British bodyshops. Thanks to these animals I will have to spend time fixing their pathetic mess rather than driving the car I love. This pic is only a small part of what needs repairing. The worst could still be yet to come.

Yep, I'm tommy

Now and then you find a civic in belgium to, sometimes you can buy one in very good shape.
Most of them are late models like mine, therefore if anyone sels an older one or has pieces of one here in belgium let me now.
An euro meet is a good idea, count me in.
Here arepics of my cars. that blue one I bought first, it still needs some work. The black one I drive every day, if I don't work on it.

I'm still here, although i'm now down to 2 mk1's and one in pieces....stripped every bolt except the fuel tank off it before I scrapped the shell.
I know of 3 other owners local to me that are still running blue one's like PJ's. Have seen quite a few over the years, plus they seem to be quite a regular auction item on Ebay UK. It's just finding them in the scrapyards that's a problem. My theory is that there are still quite a few hiding in garages over here and you tend not to see them because most people don't take them on long journeys. It's catching them before they get scrapped when people finally let them go that's the problem..

A Euro meet sounds like a good idea....will give me motivation to get mine back on the road..

The white walls are fakes! Tried everywhere I could to get real 12" white walls but no luck - they are just standard 12" black tyres with after market "white wall" rubber trims- but looks ok and from a distance you cant tell!

By jms (198.26.123.36) on Wednesday, September 03, 2003 - 12:29 pm:

Mo - I dont know much about Civic's in Sweden, but there are a few of us here in the UK and I have seen posting from other parts of the EU too. No idea how many are left on the road in the UK, mine is the only one I've ever seen here in Edinburgh, but my mate Paul in London has seven of them - all in great condition - they on keep finding him! There is no European Civic site - that I know of - if anyone does please post URL. ;-) Civic

The UK bumper is like the 73 style not the 77 USA type.

By Keil Shepherd (Medicineman) (81.131.47.220) on Saturday, August 23, 2003 - 02:53 am:

Hi

I'm in the UK and I'm rebuilding a 1978 Civic 1200 5-door Hondamatic. Sadly, few people in this country seem to regard these Mk1's as classics, so as a result I don't think there's many of us left. I've heard that number may be as low as 100.

By the way, good luck with the move Mo!

Keil
