I checked out a yard in Peterborough the had a few Civics early in the spring, and remembering that I thought one was a 5 speed 1200, I went back last weekend to check on condition and price on that and some doorpads for Shreck, and guess what, the bastards crushed em all 3 months ago, 4 or 5 first gens and 7 or 8 second gens. I don't know why these guys crush out the old and odd stuff up here, scrap metal is worth nothing right now. I will keep you informed Dave, if I see anything worth getting.

There is a yard in Whitby that has a 4-speed in it but there is also 2 second gen Civics as well, I don't know if the tranny from those would fit, if they are 5-speed. There are also a couple of first gen accords as well. One under the 78 Civic and one sitting high up on top of the box of a 5ton truck. I don't think that one was ever touched.
I am in the south end of Ajax by the lake just south of Baily.
There is a guy down here that has an old green Toyota Corolla. That pretty rare, he works off Brock road.

Yes we should. Well it would help if my car was working. You are in Pickering or Ajax? Are there any civics around that are sitting? I thought I scanned Pickering and Ajax pretty well so I would be suprised to find one. Of course you never know what is lurking behind closed doors. I was talking to one guy a couple of years ago and he opened his garage and showed me a Hemi Challenger and a 340 six pack challenger convert that he had inside. I used to work for his nehibour and had no clue what was in there.

My 78 Civic is Gold, I usally don't go on the 401. I travel on Baily road or Hwy #2. There used to be a couple around here. One was a yellow trunk model, The guy that lived next door had a hunter green one with wheel well flares. I tried to buy it off him but he would not sell it. It was his very first car.
We must meet some time with Colin and Ed.

Thanks for the info Shreck but I have a 4 spd in my parts car that I will use if I can not get a 5spd that is good and reasonable. Hey I was wondering if you drive a green civic? I saw a green what looked like a 78 get off the 401 onto Westney Rd a few weeks back. Was that you?

Hey Dave
Would you settle for a 4 speed? I know where there is one in a yard in Whitby.

Dave, here's something posted on the board a while back. Hope this helps you decide which transmission to use.

The 1300 has much taller gearing. It is a lot nicer on the highway in fifth. The 1200 would be faster in town. The cvcc I think would be in the middle , but you should get a second opinion on that one.

Which tranny is the best choice? I have a 1200 now that is putting out 85-95 hp (guess). Are there different ratios between the two? Thanks

Well remember those posts I had regarding my oil leak? over a period of 4 days I lost over 1 litre of oil and toasted the tranny. I refilled it and went over it with a fine tooth combe to find that leak and found that it was going up the speedo cable. I think it had its share of probs as 5th was hard to get into anyway. Needless to say I did solve the leak. Do any of you guys know of a good condition 5 spd that is available? Thanks for the help.
