Thanks for all the tips. I had the timing checked and it was 2 off and the belt is looking pretty horrible so I decided just to break it down and put another on. Just my luck nobody had them in stock and I have it coming for this weekend. Im hoping this is the only thing and that this isnt a combo of problems. I just gutted the interior and the prior owner had enough sense to lay the black protector stuff on the floorboard so there isnt any rust. Well thanks for all the tips and stuff, Im sure if I run into anything else I will be back to the fountain of knowledge....lol.

I did the same thing, and realized that my timing was way off because I had pulled the dizzy out and put it back in a full tooth off. I then pulled plug #1 and the dizzy out, and checked for TDC, and reinserted the dizzy with the rotor pointing at plug #1. Then made my adjustments with timing light. All works fine.

I am inclined to think that you are running out of fuel and that the fire is going up the intake to find some gas. This correlates with your description of the problem not occurring with the choke out. Issues include, in no order, float level, f***ed carb, fuel pump, filter, clogged lines, rusty tank, vaccum leak

1:your carb might be too rich (dunno)
rebuilt carb kit is about 20$canadian

2:plug all your vacum hoses...
3:make sure float level is not too high...
4:litle screw in back is for airfuel mixture (mostly idling)...

5:check timing ( 8 degrees is good)

6:to check fuel pump...unhook the fuel hose ..get a bottle ...crank it up..if it spits fuel..its fine...

Thanks, I rechecked the wires today before work and they were in order. However, I did notice the #4 was not like the other wires and was very loose fitting so I got some new ones and replaced them. It didnt cure the problem tho.

I also noticed that when I have the choke pulled out to the first notch that the problem doesnt occur. Does that maybe help with any idea of whats wrong? Im sure I will have to go over the lines and settings probably just to make sure everything is in order. I would appreciate any advice anyone has. Thanks

Check your plug firing order. i think you may have two or more plug wires crosses.

Hello,

I have a 79 civic 1200 and just got the battery installed to see if it runs. I got it started and it purrs pretty well all except for one tiny problem I think. It will run fine for 30-60 seconds and then it "backfires" through the carb and proceeds to stall and die. When its started again right after that it does the same thing.

The guy I got this from had put a new fuel pump on it and left it at that. Some of the vacumn hoses look like they arent connected as well to where they are supposed to be.

I really need some advice and think this isnt much of a problem to fix. I hope someone can nudge me in the right direction cuz I really want to drive this baby pretty bad.

Kris
