Yes, that helped alot! It's kinda tough to get those cam marks lined up just right, but after a few times I think I got it all right ;)

I picked up an 88 Prelude seat for it at the yard to replace the almost "frame" that was a seat and a new passanger window (someone was shooting at the car), now just gotta get some new plugs, and get some wires on it and I think I'll be ready to start it :)

Thanks again for your help guys!!

Timming

The TDC mark is on the plastic timing cover. If the cover is missing just turn it over till #1 (closest to timing belt) is at TDC by checking with a screwdriver or something through the plug hole. The timing mark on the bottom pulley should be at about 1 o'clock. Align the cam so that the intake lobe for #1 is "pointing" down and the two marks on the cam sprocket are approximately parallel with the top surface of the head (they never line up exactly). Slip the belt on, turn the crank a little anti-clockwise to tension the belt and tighten the tensioner bolts.

In case you've never played with one of these engines before remember it's an anti-clockwise engine.

Greetings all -- I am the new owner of a 73 Civic Hatchback, and I need a little help with repair.

The car had been sitting for 10 years in a field, but ran when it was parked. The previous owner tried to do a timing belt, but got sidetracked and the car sat from there. I need to know how to time the motor, but I don't have a manual for it yet.

Here's where I'm at - I have the crank keyway turned up with the #1 cylinder at TDC (I'm looking for a timing mark but don't see one?), and I have one of the timing marks on the cam gear (there are 2) aligned with the small circle on the first cam support under the vavle cover -- this alignment leaves the distributor rotor pointing strait up (I assume that's #1 cylinder firing spot, since there were no spark plug wires on it and it's not marked). The distributer is on the drivers side of the motor and the exhaust manifold is on the front of the engine (has 2BBL carb, not the funky 2.5 or 3BBL one).

If anyone could help from here, and confirm that I'm doing it right, that'd be great -- I do have a manual on order, but it's several weeks out, and I'd like to get it running ASAP :)

Thanks!!

-Aaron
