ok, well its seems that plans have changed. I met a guy here in town that has a 83 Civic S. It has a rebuilt 81 Ek1 w/ a street cam and weber downdraft. This is gonna be my new autox car :). My idea is now, i drive it for a good while, race it when i can until i get the $$ then... slap that engine in my Wagon, and build another Ek1 w/ the EL head to go into the Hatch. Would an Ek1 cam work in the EL head?? I would like to run this street cam in the EL when i build it.

(Thank Quickric for the pics!)
the first pic is the early EL 79-81
next is the 79-81 EK
finally the 82-83 EL
(Sorry no pic of the 82-83 EK but it looks the same as the EL except with the aux valves)
The 82-83 EK with the 82-83 EL head, stock 83 EL intake and exhaust and the stock 83 EL carb(only year for this carb)and you've got yourself a sweet little power plant,(85-100hp!!!)I ran this set up in an 77 wagon and it was great.Soon I'll be doing the same to my 78 1200.

It sounds like you need the 82-83 EL head to match the intake and exhaust manifold that you have. The earlier are different but here in Canada they are all a 4 port design as I have never seen a 2 port EL.

You should buy this one and modify to suit :)

I have plan on using a 82/83 EK1, i have one of each. These have the 4 seperate exhaust ports. As do the 82/83 EL heads as far as i have read (81 and back was a siameased design.) I have searched through the board and read that he EK1 manifolds of the same year will bolt onto the EL head, but i want to make sure before i order the parts.

The Canadian EL Head (non CVCC) will bolt onto the EK with no problems. Oscar Jackson of Jackson Racing did this swap himself. You may want to see what EL head you pick up as the port spacing was different from 81 and down to 82-83. From what I have seen you want the earlier as the port spacing is the same as the CVCC design so things like headers and intake manifolds are easier to come by.

PS - I did say easier....not easy :(

Ok, i think i just about have enough money to start building an Ek1 for my civic. Right now my plan is this. EL head, 1mm overbore. I read in some thread that all the EK1 manifolds work w/ the EL head. Just wanted someone to verfiy this, and would the EL intake not work better because it doesn't have the CVCC passages? What do you guys recommed for internals? What kinda pistons should i get? What should i get new, what should i leave stock? Where can i find a header? Any advice you have will help a lot. Thanks
