yeah, it's a GK... I don't know where I got the idea it was a GN from. The whole serial is GK-5399966.
What are the GN & GK ratios? If the GK ratios are better than the GN I will go to the effort of switching the bellhousings, otherwise I'll just swap the whole transmission.
If the ratios change between countries.. I live in Australia

GN gearbox...that sounds like one off a second gen Civic and I believe they were cable? You sure its not a GK tranny?
You cannot really convert them but you can rig up a bracket to use the cable. I here its super stiff though and works like crap (ask Justin or Twyla). You cannot convert them as the linkage for the throw out bearing is completely different in the two. I suppose you could pull a bell housing off a cable operated tranny but not much point as it would just be easier to use the cable tranny.
I think the 3 pieces you are speaking of is the end cap, tranny and bellhousing (not a traditional bell housing like the Chevy's though - as removal means an oily mess).
You should find an early 5 speed or the 1980 Civic 5 speed. There are several references to them on the board.

I just bought a first gen prelude with an EL engine and a GN gearbox with hydraulic clutch (I'll grab the numbers off them tomorrow).
What do I need to convert it over to a cable clutch? I was thinking of using a tranny off an EN 2nd gen... which one should I look for? BTW, the prelude tranny seems to be a three-piece unit.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them.
Thanks
