I agree. Wheel adapters are not the best option but they do work, depending on what you are using the vehical for. I once built a dune buggie using a 60,s VW mounted 14" chevy wheels with wheel adapters and wide rear tires. Thrased the thing over dunes , highway ect. and never had a problem..

Interesting no one mentioned track time before now???

I believe the question was whether or not we have seen them before and an implied question of if they would work.

Yes I have seen them before and yes they work (I have worked for a tire shop and installed them myself).

No it is not the best option. It is a plausible fix to a shortage of wheel options for the First Gen though.

You wont see track time if the tech inspector sees that you have adapters.

whoa Don...you really don't like hub adapters, do ya?

I need a set because the rims I have are 4X115mm and I just finished my 4x100 conversion, so I need the adapters.

Some will ask,"Why don't you get a nice set of 4x100 rims?" and I say "Because I feel like doin it this way. These mags are sweet!!"

Why isn't it safe? What kind of evidence is there on wheel adapters breaking and the wheel goin flying off? I'm just curious cause I will be dealing with these things and want to see lots of track time.

Thanks,
Colin

Oh ps the SCCA and NHRA will not let you on the track with wheel adapters as they are not safe. Just somthing else to think about.

Calvin Please know what your talking about before posting. Ok so you get some wheel adapters and it puts the wheel out "about 1"" father out. Great now Hondas have a hard time as is getting enough negative offset so you just made the problem worse. Even if there are rims made for FWD in the bolt pattern you choose the will probably still stick out of the fenders. After you have spent all the money on adapters and things, the cost for some used 4-120 wheels or a 4-100 conversion with better brakes are much smarter ways for not allot more money.

I understand your concern but thay are the same. Think about .2mm, then go and try one.

4.4.5" = 4.114.3mm, not 4.114.5mm

By Calvin (67.164.36.52) on Sunday, November 09, 2003 - 09:18 pm:

The 4x114.5mm is the same as the 4x4.5in. the 4x4.5 is very common just go to Les Schwab and take a look. This is most certainly an option in my opinion. I have also seen adapters for the 4x120 to 4x100. Hell if you have a shop in your area you could have them made 4x120 to a wide 5 or 8 lug Ford or whatever you want to dreem up. And yes this will offset you tires about an inch but then with all of the new wheel choises available to you you should have no problem finding something that will do the job.

Nope, 4x120 is 4x120, nothing else. 4x114.3 wheels are used on Nissans mostly, I believe. The only cars that used 4x120 bolt patterns are early Hondas and a few really early Mazdas. Your best bet to get rims would be to either buy used rims, get custom ones made with a 4x120 patter, or do a 4x120-4x100 conversion, which will let you choose from a much larger selection of wheels. As for those adapters, they look like they may work.

It does calculate out o 4x114.3 which I do see rims with that. Anything is better than 4x120.

These are all questions that I had too. I have not idea....

I actually wonder if it would allow us to go to wider tires? But I do not want the tires sticking out like .... well, I won't go there.

Now let me get this right. A 1975 civic has 4x120 right? What is the best size to go too? The 1988 civic has 4x100 I belive and there are a millon wheel choices for them. One more thing... Would that offset from the spacer make you have rims that seem to buldge out from the center and would that make less choices because of the offset? Thanks guys

I am not sure if anyone has seen this before or if it even works, but here it is:
