Only the pistons are used NOT the rods the gold wing pistons have to be modified to fit the car rod. After its all said and done and the high honda retail, its better to go with a custom piston.

Hang on here :) No one is going to mount a Gold Wing motor into their first gen. The gold Wing pistons and rods are used in a 1200 block with the 1200 heads to create a stroker motor. The end product is as Dr Zoom puts it, a torque monster.

The Goldwing engine is a flat four (2 heads) and the tourqe is going to suck in comparison to the 1200. Plus the mounting would be no easy task.

The Goldwing is a flat four is it not?

That first piston looks to have 4 valve cutouts
So is the goldwing engine 16 valve?
If so what are the differences that stop us using the goldwing head or entire engine for that matter? Does anyone know the general specs of the goldwing engine?
cheers, John

The center piston is not from a normal EB1, it's from an EB1 RS engine. The groove under the oil ring on the Goldwing piston is for the oil return. Forged pistons usually use that style oil return (groove below the oil ring with holes drilled through) whereas most cast pistons have slots cut through the skirts behind the oil rings. The "groove and hole" type oil return is generally considered to be better as it reduces piston strength less than cutting two long slots in the sides of the piston.

Oops,
I will try all three at once.

From left to right these pistons are 72mm Goldwing, 70mm EB1-5xxxxxx and 72mm EB2. I am curious about the Goldwing pistons. They have a groove below the rings and there are oil holes in the groove. They also are smaller diameter above this groove. What effect will this have on performance, if any?
Two more pictures will follow.
