Its all about finishing off the interior!
By jms (66.242.1.129) on Thursday, December 18, 2003 - 04:36 pm: |
No, its the ones in the rear pockets, Im gonna leave them since I will keep the car, I think moving them might cause some more damage. Im buying some others from Justin for the other car. Hparts-aka Dave sold some rear over head speakers not too long ago, Jonathon got em for a pretty penny. He started it out low and people just offered up the $, some NOS ones went on ebay for like $180 last year. WHY? I dont get it they are small and wimpy for any real high output system? I guess if you are into rare parts or all stock stuff, Im into both, but for the $ Id rather get new louder components.

Hi Jared
I've just noticed on your first post that you might be replacing your rear speaker covers. Are those the 'roof' speaker ones? If they are would you be interested in selling the cracked ones? I've got some ideas for customised covers I'm interested in trying.
If you'd like you can e-mail me on:

Cheers

Jared, where did you dig up that cool little picture of the slammed civic?
By shreck (66.185.85.79) on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 09:43 pm: |
Shea
Thanks,
I work just inside the border of Scarborough and at lunch time 4 cars pulled in with this Honda Fast and Furious/Gino/Ricer mobile all done up and when they left they drove away with 3-1/2 cars leaving the shell behind. They were fast, took them about 20-25min. The tenenants didnt even have time to call the police.

Never heard that term before. Around here and everywhere else I've seen it's known as RICE.
By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (66.185.85.79) on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 04:42 pm: |
Randy,
The term "GINO" is a semi-derogatory slur which may be generally applied to someone (or thing) which tries too hard to be "cool" and winds up going overboard. In some cases, the word "GINO" can be a derogatory term directed towards people of Italian heritage as a slur against their ethnic background. I was going for the former definition, not the latter. Have you ever seen the movie "The Fast and The Furious?" each and every car in that movie is a rolling definition of the automotive term "GINO." Way, WAAAYYY too cutomized, paint far too flashy, etc. So many body modifications that you can't tell a Honda from a Mitsubishi from a Toyota....come to think about it, there's an awful lot of "GINO" late model Civics running around Scarborough... ;)
Jared, how about painting the little "eyelids" satin black so they match the grille? That might look kinda neat.
By shreck (66.185.85.79) on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 - 06:31 pm: |
Ok what's the joke "Gino"
I must be old or stupid, I guess I spend too much time in the garage working on a car that won't start.
Sorry Shea I am an old fart and I like the Jared look, My son loves it too. In fact he wants the same look for the "one" that won't start.
I told him he will have to find a spare grille though.
Are the new rims staying.
Do you have new pictures Jared to update your web page on www.1stgencivic.com?
By jms (66.242.1.236) on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 - 05:55 pm: |

Jared (GINO-hahah)

Mr. JMS,
I'd like to offer you my apologies, sir. I hope I didn't offend you too badly-sometimes I tend to go overboard with my comments if something isn't exactly how I'd like to do it. I'm sure looking forward to seeing your hybrid car finished-they look like an awful lot of engineering work! Kudos to all who build these little hotrods!

All you have to do now it to get them to blink and the back end to bounce up and down when a chick goes by.

Hi Jared
Those headlamp covers are cool! Makes the car look like it's got a real attitude problem!
By shreck (199.243.98.218) on Tuesday, December 02, 2003 - 09:47 am: |
Jared,
Your car looks Great!
Whats in the little bags?
The lights are funny, it will turn some heads. I would expect to see something other than an old Civic behind me with those lights.

The passenger mirror on my 78 is useless, I thought it was just me, guess not.
By Kurt (142.179.39.216) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 07:43 pm: |
My trunk model had the pin stripe as well. I hope they are not rare because I have thrown out a few sets! Can't explain the passenger mirror but I think the cigarette lighter and rear speaker grills were some of the dealer options to 'accesorize' your Civic. I can see the floor mats in that one pic - definitely nice.
Does your passenger mirror look at the sky as well?
By jms (66.242.1.169) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 07:33 pm: |
I think the best thing the trunk models have going for them are easy drop top conversions, those hinges are butt.
By jms (66.242.1.169) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 07:32 pm: |
yeah my rust repair days are gone, my time and $ has better things to do, the underside of the car is bad, I know it looks good (my detailing skills) but you cant even adjust the ebrake its so rusted, trust me. If it were my only 1st gen Id atempt to fix it. I even have the front fender pieces I cut out of another, but I found some rust free shells here in TX I couldnt pass it up, so as much as it pains me, I will soon strip my tricked out whitey and junk the body, then put all the goodies (fiberglass fenders, interior, MY GINO STUFF-thanks SHEA, hey IM EYE talian!) on my hybrid-it will be white as well.
By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (66.185.85.79) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 06:33 pm: |
I DIG the trunk model Civics-kinda wish mine was one! Don't be too hard on your NY flyer, it looks MUCH better than my Ontario car.
No offense, but the grill and headlight covers are just sliding over the line into The Land Of Gino. Leave the billet aluminum bookshelf to the sixteen year olds whose Mom financed their new Civic...PLEASE!!!
By jms (66.242.1.202) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:51 pm: |
sorry for the spelling-trunk and pin stripe that should be-fast typing=mistakes
By jms (66.242.1.202) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:50 pm: |
Hey Kurt thats whats weird I know the trunck models are the basic models but this car has pin strip (I think factory or at least dealer option) BOTH mirrors in chrome, cig lighter, rear speakers and cover, appear very orig or at least dealership option in my opinion, and some very cool floor mats.
By jms (66.242.1.202) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:48 pm: |
haha, my wife drives it a lot, she just hates the choke in cold weather, one time she cranked so much she threw off the timing belt and now shes nervous about it. THe rust on the tricked out one is in the front fenders, I have pics somewhere I can post later. Also underneath-its completely crusty-it could fixed, but after being stationed it TX everything here is SOOO clean, NO BROKEN BOLTS when working!! So NY and salt belt states SUCK-NY is my home state.
By jms (66.242.1.202) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:38 pm: |
heres the interior on the tricked out one, the other shot is of the new trunck model I just got
By Kurt (142.179.39.216) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:28 pm: |
So where is the rust on the other one? Looks like you hid it pretty good to me. On a side note I can barely get my wife in mine never mind a his and hers Civic.

Man..I wanna move to Texas - mint Honda Civics and beers in the back alley with Hank Hill
Seriously though sweet trunk model. Its the same white as my trunk model but I cannot believe the shine on the paint...is that original? Even the stock steelies have no rust, up here they are always brown a bit.
Both my trunk models did not have the padded arm rests, I think because they were the basic model.
Honda did not even put the plastic cladding in the trunk that the hatches had...I had to modify some to make the plastic fit in mine - ended up giving myself 6 stitiches in the process. \

another pic, almost mint all black interior but the driver seat...if course.
I told my wife we can have his and hers, too bad my 78 is rusty, oh well its soon to be canabalized to become my CRX hybrid swap.
By jms (66.242.1.202) on Monday, December 01, 2003 - 05:02 pm: |
This makes #3, my first white one (cool 78), my hybrid CRX motor swap project and now this very clean and nice 79. I knew of it for a while now and even mentioned it in another post, see here. I dont like trucnk models much, but it was too mint to pass up and the price was very right. I will drive it while I switch the parts from my white one to the CRX project swap. It has some cool parts, rear speaker covers (JUSTIN I will still get the ones you have thought, these are old and have some cracks), pass side mirror, but for some odd reason it came with the lame door pulls instead of the nice arm rests, I didnt really know those were optional until I saw the accessory page on Shrecks website. It has really cool floor mats too, I will get some interior shots later. RIght now its not getting fuel, it has new pump, carb etc, I think its just nasty gas but I will figure it out soon.
