well christoph, my radiator boiled over twice when i was driving it, and now i seem to have heat, no idea why though??? im not sure what the hecks goin on??? But now the fan doesnt always work on it, like if the car is off, and the key is on the fan works but every now and then when i start the car, the fan and the rear defroster will not work, and the fuses are fine, my cars just a piece...

were managing around 13C daily, altho at the moment were having freak frosts in the middle of whats ment to be summer, so its making the early morning starts both hard on vehicle and owner.

R.Leigh,
It must be reasonably warm down there these days?
What would an average day get up to in C? It's not too bad here in Calgary AB Canada today + 3 or 4 C.

OOOPs, by water I meant coolant. NEVER run these cars with less than a factory recommended water/coolant blend.

That sounds like you may have air trapped in your system. try to purge the air out via the bleed screw. You must flush, and or fill these systems with the heater valve fully open. Only hot water creates heat, air in the system does nothing. Also, if you have removed much of the smog stuff, which makes these cars run hotter, then they run cooler...makes sense doesn't it? You may have to do what I did years ago, I made a winter grill from an extra grill I had by bonding a sheet of ABS plastic to the front of the grill area, then smoothed it in and painted it. This speeds the engine heat up cycle quite a bit and increases operating temperature some without causing overheat problems once the ambient temps drop below 40 degrees F or so.

I guess heater performance is relative to location Are you in NZ R.Leigh?

Yup.... Civic heaters are a little wimpy. (78 and 79 models were an improvement with the 3 speed motor and less restrictive ductwork)
Troy, your heater core should be hot to touch. Start with the basics. Pull out your engine thermostat and test it in a pot of water on the stove with a meat thermometer to make sure it opens up at the specified temp, if it opens too soon, get a new one. I still test new thermostats before installing. Make sure the valve that limits coolant flow to the heater core is adjusted so it is open all the way when the temp lever is on full hot. If the heater is still not putting out heat you may have a clogged heater core that needs to be replaced or flushed. Hope this helps. PS> check the heater hoses for kinks or restrictions too.

well im just wondering how everyone elses heaters are working in the cold, mine doesnt heat up at all, and i dont know y?? im not sure where the problem is, the hoses going into the heater core are warm to the touch, but the inside rad is cold, but if leave the heater fan off for a about 5 minuites but then i only get heat for a short period of time before its ice cold again???? Is this a common problem or just my car???
