I am not 100% sure, but I think both cams have the same profile anyways,so it should work fine. You could have your EC cam reground.I think there is a guy in Vancouver (Coltcams?) that could do it for ya.Maybe even has one in stock? Anyone have contact info?

Sorry H, not that I didn't believe you, I guess I just wanted confirmation after I posted pics. I would have used the EC cam, but it was totally shot. Huge score marks on the lobes, and the tops of half of the lobes were concave instead of flat.
Why on earth would anyone put an ED cam in an EC head? And does anyone have a better cam they want to sell me?

CVCC cam will work with the Canadian head. Just put it in and test rotate it to check clearance on the CVCC lobes. It is not the best choice powerwise, but economy wise it will work fine.

That's what I said 8 posts down!
That's a cvcc cam from the ED.

Yeah, that looks like a CVCC cam. Here's a picture of a CVCC cam:

It looks like the one in your picture.

interesting. Not a bad read, but it doesn't answer my question: "Why are these two cams different?"
Can anyone look at the pics and tell me if this is maybe a cvcc cam that someone put into my ec head? Or anything as to the reason for the difference?

elgincams.com
5th link down on the left "camshafts" has a great article on theory. Numerous cams designs are available for the 1200. Do a search on this site and you'll see all the choices. Web Cam has a hot street grind I am pleased with and if I ever get my hot block I will try their racing grind.

No worries. I wouldn't put pics on there if I didn't want people to see them. It's a 72 2002, engine is a straight 6 from a 91 325i. Hauls a stupid amount of ass. Jackson Autosport in Winnipeg, Manitoba did the exhaust. If you want I'll put more pics up in the next day or two.
Anyone know anything about the cams?!?

Not to be nosey but that BMW and stainless steal exhaust sure looks nice. What motor have you stuffed in there?

okay, finally got some pics. go to http://www.warezstein.com/~justin/77wagon/
pics of the cams are eccams and eccams1. I know that either cam will work, just really curious as to the differance.

If I go to my shop tonite I'll take a picture. The "balance lobes" per say are not functional (the faces aren't finished). I found out the head is from a late 78 wagon. (I think. Might have to look it up again)
By H (24.67.134.220) on Monday, December 29, 2003 - 06:12 pm: |
Sounds like you have a cvcc (ED-xxxxx) camshaft ( "has what looks like balance lobes in between the actual lobes" )in your donor head.

well, I'm going to just assume the head will work fine. Just dropped it off to get milled, so I'll only shave off what it needs.

I'm replacing the head on my 77 wagon and would like to know the differances between this head and the donar head. Wagon engine is EC-1101744, donar head is EC-1205676. I have no idea what car this engine originally came from. It was in my 78 1200 when I bought it.
The only differance I can see is the camshaft. The EC-120... has what looks like balance lobes in between the actual lobes, and the 77's does not. Will there be any problems swapping heads?
Also, does anyone know how much I can safely shave the head using a stock head gasket?
