Heres the 1300 civic flywheel machined to fit the 83 accord crank. It cost me $40.00 bucks candian.

Perhaps there is a differance between the 81 accord 1600 and 1800 cranks. But I did fit a 1200 or maybe a 1300 civic flywheel to an 81 accord 1600 crank. It does have to be machiened though. I also replaced that engine with an 83 accord 1600. But that was a lot of problems because of the torque rod. The civic flywheel will bolt right to the 79 and older accord crank. I will be putting an 84 accord 1600 into a cvcc in the next week. If I use the civic transmition I'll send you some picks.

Yes and No. The bolt pattern on the crankshaft/flywheel area is wrong (larger bolts and pattern). If you can do some swapping, you need the '79 Accord 1800 crankshaft to mate with the '79 Civic flywheel(same bolt size and pattern). Or just use the '79 short block with the '81 head. The trans should bolt up without problems. I use this configuration now and have for a long time. If you need direct bolt-in without engine mods, use the entire '79 engine. Using the '81 head with the 4 separate exhaust ports is the better setup. You will need the downpipe that fits the exhaust. As the intake and exhaust are on the same side, it does get a little close to the firewall, but not enough to be objectionable. Be sure to get all you can from the Accord engine, as it has some emission control stuff (EGR and black boxes) that your car won't have. You will need an electric fuel pump and set up for an electronic ignition. The torque rod needs modification and you may need to swap motor mounts bases. Have the 1200 radiator cleaned and rodded and it should do fine. I have eliminated the rad fan temp sensor and just run the fans direct. The 1800 block is taller than the 1200 w/ much bigger bore and longer stroke. Good Luck, this is a great swap. Butch

I'v put in an 81 accord 1.6 before. I did use the civic transmition , but you have to get the flywheel machined to fit the accord crank. That cost me $50.00 Canadian. I had problems with the bolt through the air filter hitting the hood when I closed it, so I bought an after market one. I think the 1.8 accord is a taller block , not a bigger bore. So the air filter may be a problem for you. Jonathan is right about the exaust. I would recamend you get the down pipe from the accord and then buy a hole new exaust back from there. The 1200 pipe is just to small for an 1800. Other than that it will go right in.
I for got about the electric fuel pump and electronic egnition , and the torque rod to the fire wall. I got one from a 75 79 cvcc or wagon. Or you could cut and weld the 1200 civic one. I used the 1200 rad and had no problems with the cooling. Maybe in Texas it would need to be changed to something bigger.

Since you're bolting it in to a 1200, you may run into some clearance issues getting the engine to fit in the bay right. If you had a Civic CVCC, I'd say it would be a bolt in, but in a 1200, you'd have to take some careful measurements first. You'll have to do some work making the exhaust fit too. I'm pretty sure that it exits on the opposite side of the head as the 1200's.

Help! Will a 1981 accord 1.8 motor bolt in to my 1979 civic 1200 . I think it does, but can I use my stock 1200 tranny with the 81 accord motor????
