That would be great, if possible, could you also take some showing how close your header is to the axle? my header came with 2 rub marks in it, but it looks like its going to fine in my car, I'm just waiting for the suspension to settle in again so I can see for sure

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Tuesday, January 04, 2005 - 10:26 pm:

At the very most I have 1/2 an inch but probably less. I will post pics ASAP.

By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Tuesday, January 04, 2005 - 09:27 pm:

Well I think I may have figured it out already, but pics would still be good. I guess my header is a different shape than yours, as I notched the crossmember to what you described, but I still had to do a lot of repositioning of the motor mounts to move the whole engine forwards/tilted. How much clearance did you end up with? I'm a little concerned that the engine will torque over and hit still, although I filled in the torque rod bushing and it doesn't seem to move at all

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Tuesday, January 04, 2005 - 08:58 pm:

Found some, thanks for the offers everyone.

Kyle, I will have to wait till I can grab the digital from work. Basically I just grinded off the small lip on the cross member, maybe a half inch by about 3 inches wide. Its still a tight fit but as there is no real movement up or down it does not seem to be hitting under load. I will try and get you a pic to show you what I mean.

I should have a set as well, I know there's at least one seat visible with both rails on it, and the other seat should be in there as well, but I can't even get near the car or open the doors. I assume you would want them before the meet, let me know, and I will start the excavation =)

ps. do you have any pics of how you notched your crossmember to get your header to fit?

By Kurt (70.70.191.9) on Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 01:25 pm:

thanks for the offers. I'll let you know. Looks as though we may be able to make a meet soon :)

By Don (199.2.139.231) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 06:11 am:

If Justin doesnt I have a few rails, I toss the seats anyway.

By cody_guldstrand@hotmail.com (Turbo74) (66.245.206.170) on Thursday, December 30, 2004 - 11:35 am:

it just so happens that i work at a fiero shop (against my will). i only work here so i can use the machine shop after hours. so i think i might be able to get you a set of fiero seats cheap. e-mail me and we can make a deal.

By lilbucu (24.16.243.28) on Thursday, December 30, 2004 - 03:20 am:

man! i want some Civic Ferio seats really bad now. but they are so marked up here in the states because they have to be imported.

a similar seat is the 2nd gen CRX si seats, but most of those are very work out because they are pretty old.

i wish some one would sell a set to me at a reasonable price.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Thursday, December 30, 2004 - 12:20 am:

Anyone in the lower mainland have a spare set of stock seat rails? I just bolted in the entire Prelude seats, rails and all, when I installed mine....Had I known you could just bolt the Prelude seats to the Civic rails I never would have thrown my seats away :(

i was almost sure that i`ve posted my seats here but here goes, these seats are from a civic ferio Sir, pretty confortable and easy to put them on it uses the same front holes of the rail, but you have to weld an extension on the back ,in the pic is only 1 on, but already put the passenger too

City Turbo II seats are pretty much a bolt in, you just need to drill new hole in the rail for the seat bolt. They look very good and are pretty comfortable, howver that isnt much help for you US guys =P

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 - 06:20 pm:

I like the look of the Civic Si seats especially. I don't remember if they have any embroidery, but that would be pretty cool too. Gives it a semi-OE look.

I have 91 preludes seats in mine and i like them too.

so, is the consensus that civic seats and 90's prelude seats work well?

I am definately interested in swapping mine out after hearing about all your success stories!

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Monday, October 18, 2004 - 10:39 pm:

those are pretty sick seats too. I like that they're skinnier than mine. I lose a lot of leg room for the rear passenger area, since it's a sedan.

A friend of mine w/ a '71 BMW 2002 says that CRX seats are a desirable swap. Apparently it's a relatively easy mount-up. I love those 2002's (esp. the roundies) almost as much as i love 1st & 2nd gen civics.

i got some sivic si seats. i like them alot! there is a picture on my site http://malcons79.tripod.com/1200/

Honda Prelude seats look realy cool, never tried to install them though. If I find a good pair from a prelude, I'm pulling them out. They have some type of lumbar support and a memory button.

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Monday, October 18, 2004 - 01:30 am:

by "reason i went" i mean for some 92-95 civic seats

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Monday, October 18, 2004 - 01:29 am:

good find... that's actually the reason I went to the wrecking yard in the first place. I saw the CRX and hoped for good seats, but found the recaros instead. I guess they'll have to do:)

By osminsd@aol.com (68.7.165.149) on Sunday, October 17, 2004 - 11:55 pm:

Nice seats, I figured I'd reapolster my seats, but when I found out the price, I went to the wrecking yard and got these for 25 bucks each. They look great on the car and much better suited for long drives. They came off a 95 Honda Civic.

Pardon my grammar: "They're", not "their". And 250 is in USD. What do you guys think...too much?

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Saturday, September 18, 2004 - 01:16 am:

I went ahead and bought those recaros mentioned below, and their in the process of being reupholstered in 2-tone black and grey imitation leather(supposed to be stronger then the real thing from what i've heard) at 250 per seat. I figure it's a good deal for some one-of-a-kind recaros. I'll post up the pics if it ends up looking good. Now all i've got to do is figure out how to mount them:)

where in TX are you?

By Rob in Texas (Oneold77) (69.15.57.154) on Monday, July 26, 2004 - 08:43 am:

What seats will fit in a 77 civic with the least amount of trouble? I have one with seats that are pretty trashed.

By Mick (Tur8ociv) (202.9.62.157) on Monday, July 26, 2004 - 06:12 am:

Buying a set of brand new seats, ripping off the covers and getting them custom trimmed would be pretty stupid and a waste of some good seats as well as $$$$$.

There are lots of second hand seats going around that are a couple of years old, still in excellent condition but make excellent candidates for a nice custom trim.

I suppose it all comes down to how much a person is prepared to pay for a unique addition to their car.

By Colza (Colza) (219.88.31.105) on Monday, July 26, 2004 - 04:39 am:

Yeah, i got quoted NZ$400 for retrimming. That is expensive by my standards. I wouldnt pay that much for a recaro unless it was new, and i had assumed we wernt re-upholstering new seats =P

Now, Type-R seats would be a classy addition...

By Mick (Tur8ociv) (202.9.62.157) on Monday, July 26, 2004 - 02:30 am:

Re-apolstering isn't all that expensive. I got mine done for around $300 a seat and that was from a professional.

The job was first rate and the Recaros are excellent seats. They are very comfortable and are good quality seats. Remember, Honda wouldn't use them in their Type Rs if they were crap.

There are some pretty bad seats out there. Just make sure the padding is still pretty good. A lot of people sit on the edges when getting in and bend the padding.

By Colza (Colza) (210.54.193.142) on Sunday, July 25, 2004 - 04:09 am:

Reupholstering is HIGHLY HIGHLY expensive. For recaros i'd say its not worth it unless you can get it done really cheap. I know a guy who picked up some Dragon seats which retail at 1500 each, those are worth reupholstering!

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (66.241.89.207) on Friday, July 23, 2004 - 02:21 pm:

So if there's a pair of thrashed Recaro seats in an 86 crx, is it worth it to buy them for 60 bucks and then have them reupholstered? Are there any nice seat covers out there that could hold me over until the reupholstery happens? Also, would the brackets mounted in the crx bolt into my 82 sedan?

By spickets (203.45.183.9) on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 04:53 pm:

I found out what my seats are.... 96 Toyota celica GTfour. They are in now and were a mission to install, I had to fabricate some new rear mounting blocks and modify the front. I made it so the old seats can still go back in if i want.

By Trent Larson (68.104.145.126) on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 12:48 am:

I hope we're still talkin about seats, I just scored two 92 prelude seats for my 74, on e-bay. I've read that it does'nt take much modification to install them. Has anyone done this in their civic? Let me know if there was anything difficult about the install.

By Kurt (207.6.47.162) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 02:16 pm:

I have a chromed cover on my motor. It looks better than a polished one and is less maintenance but I suppose it would cost more. I have been running mine for a while with no problems.

By spickets (211.29.136.13) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 05:24 am:

Chroming looks perfect.. but is more expensive than polishing and might peel if it gets to hot. I find polishing very rewarding :) and it cost me nothing.

By lazy (210.10.240.23) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 03:14 am:

which is the better or preferred method for 'gussying up' the tappet covers - polishing or chroming?

By spickets (211.29.136.13) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 03:11 am:

There was a few hours of polishing in it but i think it will be worth it as a finishing touch. The seats are in now, they give my civic a whole new feel to drive. I will have to post some more pics

By Kurt (207.6.47.162) on Monday, January 12, 2004 - 12:03 am:

That looks like a polished 1200 one. I just finished an old one I had kicking around but its not as perfect as that one. They loook nice when you fill the background of the 'HONDA' logo in with some red paint but you have to be patient. I'll probably throw mine on Ebay one day I just did it for kicks.

By jms (198.26.123.37) on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 10:42 am:

Those look like Nissan seats, I jsut put in some Integra seats, will post pics. Did you crome plate the valve cover or just polish it?

By spickets (211.29.222.234) on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 04:29 am:

grrr i mean tappet cover newseats polished

By spickets (211.29.222.234) on Sunday, January 11, 2004 - 04:26 am:

newseats i will be putting them in tomorro... the drivers side is electric. polished and check out my tapped cover.
