Ya GM is great for old parts. You can still even get hubcaps for vehicles in the 50's

Sue,

This is truly a sad story. I feel your pain. I find it truly amazing what automakers will do with "leftovers" from the older model cars...even if they know the older cars still have a following. :(

Don't know if you skip over to the second gen forum here, but Johnathan and I were having the discussion about parts availability for early Chevy Chevelles...too bad the early Hondas don't have the same factory backed and aftermarket support. :(

Hopefully, the old out in the hills wrecking yards will continue to survive and not get rid of what stock of old Civics, Accords, etc that they have. The hunt and scrounge is all we have! :) At least that part's fun! :)

Shea:)

Last August, while my husband was on vacation without me, I bought a 1979 Civic (HB) Convertible. It's a real beauty with only a few minor flaws, one being the drivers outside door handle that is broken. I drove straight over to the nearest dealership and ordered one. When it finally came in I found out that it was the right part number on the package but the wrong part inside-it was too big-maybe for an Accord. We sent it back. When the dealership tried to reorder it we found out that it was now a discontinued part. He did a national locate and managed to find 2 more out there. One was located at Majestic Honda and the other was located at a dealership in Ohio. He ordered the one from Ohio and gave them the dealership credit card number. After several weeks when we still hadn't received it he called the Ohio only to find out that they no longer had that part. Dwayne in Ohio told us that our dealership had given him a credit card number that didn't work. So instead of calling our dealership to get the correct number he said he figured we didn't want the handle. He decided to send the discontinued part back to American Honda.

Well, guess what American Honda does when they get back a discontinued part from a dealership.

THEY DESTROY IT!!!

We found out two days too late. My handle was already gone! It's hard enough to find these parts in the first place but to find out that they destroy the discontinued parts just ticks me off.

If anyone knows where I can find an outside door handle for the drivers side PLEASE let me know.

Oh, in case you're wondering, Yes, I did order the other available one from Majestic Honda. It took 3 weeks to receive. When I opened the box there was a brand new door handle inside. The package had the correct part number for the left side. It had been opened and there was written in big bold letters right next to the part number " WRONG SIDE". What was inside was the right side handle! I dare not send it back to be destroyed by Honda but I do still need a left handle.

PLEASE - Someone must have one of these laying around! I've had no luck at the wrecking yards. I'm trying to find one in good condition-no rust.

Sue
