Just thought I would add my few cents worth to this thread. I have a 82-83 canadian 1600 with a 79 civic 1200 5 speed. Machining had to be done to use the 79 flywheel with the 82-83 accord. Same as if it were a pre 82 1600 I believe. Shane

You may not get the 82+ engine to mate with the earlier gearbox.
I have this setup in the '77 that's for sale, and I had to use the tranny from the donor car because the flywheel had a larger dia. and it would not clear the bellhousing.
Swapping the flywheel was not a simple bolt on affair either. The later crank/flywheel uses larger bolts (12mm vs. 10mm) and a wider bolt pattern.
There's also a shifter linkage issue with the later tranny, which I solved by welding the appropriate ends together to form a custom shift rod.
Unless there's a simple way I don't know about, try to stick with the '81 and down engine.

You will pass right through Hope...Quesnel is about 5 hours north of Hope. The 1200 head will not work on your CVCC motor. However, here in Canada we got non CVCC 1500's. I would imagine the same goes for the EK and the EL in that you could likely bolt up a non CVCC head to your block. Not sure what difference it woould make though.

thanks for the info. i have thought about the 1200, but i have not seen any in the states. sounds like the EK is the smart money. eather of you know if i could get a non-cvcc head for the 1500? like using the 1200 non-cvcc head or some thing like that? how far from quisnel is hope? i may be goin up there in the spring.
Rob,

I think it was Ted, Rick and Errol.
I thought we got the EK in the 82-83 Preludes? I have thought about the EK myself but as we Canadians already have the non CVCC head I don't know if we would gain much more power other than the little bit from the extra 150 cc's.
Personally Rob I would go with the EK over the 1500. They are both cast iron blocks so weight is not an issue. The EK would easily swap into the bay and as its already a CVCC you would not have to modify your torque rod, shifter linkage, hoses or fuel pump. NO Welding . Plus, down the road you could swap the CVCC head for the Canadian head. What about the 1200? Lighter, easier to find hop up parts (well a little bit) and you could always build a stroker. I know - decisions, decisions!

Well some people may disagree, but I say ditch the 1500, now we didn't get the EK up here, but we did get the EL (1600) which me and Kurt both have in our cars, I think the amount of work to install it versus the power increase makes it well worth it. Me personally, I would like to try building up an EK and putting the EL head onto it, I know its been done but I'm not sure who it was?

I'm from Hope. I know Pick a Part in Chilliwack has quite a few EL's although I could not say for sure when the last time they were run. I think Shane had some EL's for sale not sure about EK's though.

thanks for the info. i'm looking at getting a motor soon, and most of them at 82-83 the 79's are tough to come by. i can get the 79 but it is a re-man and i want to do the work my self so i can add all the goodies(blue & balance, EL heads, carbs, electronic ignition, cam, crank, headers...)
do you have any good recorces for getting motors? i did the on-line serch, lots of places have longblocks for 600+-
thanks again for the info

The actual swap itself is the same, its the differences with the heads

sorry to bring back an old subject, but i read a lot of discusions on this site, but never saw if ther was a difrence in 79-81 EK1751 swap and the 82-83 swap into a 78 1500 cvcc.
