he has both a turbo and super charger on his CRV? whats he running 5:1 compression =p

Actually my buddy has turbo/charger set-up on a CRV... I don't know why :) The shop that did it, made a mess of it, Carline ended up ripping it all out and just running the turbo..hmm maybe I'll buy the JR Charger off of him :)

The Lancia Delta S4 (circa 1986/87)used both. This was basically a purpose built World Championship rally car (Group B) but around 400 Stradale (street) versions were built for homologation purposes. I guess you could call that "production".......

Very interesting....Justin :)

some large 2 stroke diesel engines use both , the super charger to start up and the turbo to run but ive never heard of them both being used on production cars ,what type of engine was it and if you know could you provide some more info. on it, sounds interesting.

You certainly can. There are a few production cars out there that have a supercharger/turbo combination. The usual setup is a supercharger driven through a magnetic clutch (like an air con clutch) for boost at low revs that disconnects when the turbo spools up at higher revs.

I didn't think you could do both.

If money's no issue, go with a Turbocharged/Supercharged system. The Supercharger will create boost down low, and allows the use of a large turbo for a crazy top end as well.

Twin turbo systems still have a lag time, and w/o a large displacement engine you'll never be able to find small enough turbo's, or get them to spool before 4K.

If money is no object go with a twin turbo system.

turbos have lag ,that is they generally take longer to spool up but they generally have a better power they also dont get effected by altitude and generaly can produce more boost.but then more boost means a hotter intake charge and hence the need for intercooling ,a mack truck can come down from over 200 degrees celsius to ambiant through intercooling the cooler the charge the more dense so the more air you get in the chamber the more air the more power but. super chargers can get up to peak boost ususally alot quicker and that means minimal lag everyone has a opinion what is better the way i see it which gives more bang for buck and turbos usually win due to the fact there is a whole multitude of gear out there esp. for 4cyl applications although with the new types of super chargers and the more use , the new mini being the prime egs tide may hange superchargers may become more available .....

but if your asking my opinion i prefer the turbo doesnt mean im right though im sure ther is someone diagreeing with me right now

78si's link is how i learned like 4yrs ago..good stuff. the net if filled with it...your next question should be...why does the size of the turbo matter and does a super charger really need an intercooler?

By farenheight101 (24.69.255.203) on Monday, January 26, 2004 - 09:25 pm:

Superchargers don't restric exhaust but they have belt restriction. I guess its a matter of how much boost is applied.

Turbochargers are exhaust driven turbines, while supercharges are any mechanically driven forced induction.
