I honestly did not have that problem. I used a '78 CVCC tank in my '79 1200. Are you using an earlier tank, or have a earlier car as that might make a difference.

John do you have pics or can you take some, how did you hook up the corresponding lines when they are very different sizes than whats on the 1200?

Actually I did that several times.
Also the outlets are very different from the 1200 tank, the CVCCs are larger, so the vent lines coming from the canister have small outlets, but they go into large ones, so I have to rig some tyoe of wrong size rubber lines on there.
I have an elec aux. pump Im gonna try

Try blowing your fuel line clear from the engine bay side back to the tank. Take the fuel line loose first. The fuel line might be restricted from all the crap in that was in your old tank. As far as which lines go where I just hooked the existing lines on my car to the corresponding lines on the tank and drove it for years that way. Just remember you have less capacity, so I wouldn't let it get too close to the built in reserve.

YOU SAID in another post:
"By the way a CVCC tank can be used in a 1200, thought not visa-versa. Only three of the bolts line up, but that is enough to do the trick. you do loose a small quantity of tank volume, but it is less than half of a gallon."
I have a 1200 I just put the CVCC tank in. Have you done this swap?? I cant figure out how all the lines go, I hooked it up a few ways and still no fuel, Im thinking maybe I need a second pump down by the tank.
