I have two rear defrost hatches, one is rust free mint (green) the other is white, a few rust spots but good window, will be on ebay soon if anyone is interested. They work fine and have no breaks. Low mileage cars.

auto parts stores sells a liquid copper for fixing rear defrosters. it comes with a small template for a guide, I have it but have not used it yet.

You can fill the holes with small rubber plugs that fit in the holes. What clock are you referring to?

Ive got the clear back window as a replacement just ib case. But then what do you fill the defrost switch hole with. Ive already got a cover panel on the clock and on the dash next to the choke knob. I am going to do a continuity check but it is possible to have too high a resistance in the lines causing too much draw to heat the back window but not enough draw to tip anything. Ill figure it out. Thanks guys. Oh and where could you get a replacement grid other than JCWHitney.

Ya, like Adrian said, it happened to mine and although the 'grid' was still there a small break in the lines will cause them not to work. I ended up ditching mine for a clear back window.

Personally I'd be very surprised if it did work. I'm yet to see one (and I've seen a lot of Civics) that has worked. The 'wires' on the window get worn off and break down over time.

I use a multi meter with an audible continuity thingy to check each line on the rear window element. If the defroster is not working at all I'd check for voltage right at the window element first.

can comeone go out and get the resitance specs for the entire system from various spots. I got a new switch and that didnt fix it.
Id like a general check from the switch to the rear defroster and from each side of just the defrost wires on the window. thanks again.
