Hmm, different tastes, the reason I went with the earlier hood on my '78 is so that I could have those side vents. I think they look cool even if they are just for looks.

Interesting question, Chris!
I've been thinking the same thing ever since I got mine. I don't care for the little "scoop" thingy at the rear of the '78/'79 hood...but the side vents on them are cleaner looking IMO than the sideways ones on the earlier '73-'77 hoods (like mine has).
Wonder if anyone's ever "hybridized" or mixed and matched hood parts/vents on one of these cars?
Are those little side vents REALLY necessary (i.e. would the underhood temperatures soar through the roof)? Or could you shave them right off and smooth the hood out there on the edges? I think that would look nice.
Just my $.02, FWIW.
Regards,
Shea

it gives the air a little chill before it gets into the cabin.... i don't see how it's hurting anything. i'd say it's upping the chances of rust but i've only done it when it was like, rediculously hot out so not really an issue....
kinda like the ol' VW bug a/c, hehe

on my 79 i fill the "hole" that feeds air from the scoop to the interior with ICE, hahaha... 2 bags and i'm good to go for a 30 minute drive down the highway.
only done it twice actually.... i like the windows down and wind blowing through my hair @ 85mph on the interstate most of the time, haha

Adrian, yeah, i know what ya mean, but also - i saw some guy that stuck his pod filter in that section... so maybe u could cut a hole in the side wall and make it so u are cooling the engine bay? :P

I prefer the 77 and down due to the side scoops but I think most like the hood scoop thing on the 78-79. I think the best is the early CVCC with side scoops and dual hood scoop thingys in the middle.

The scoop on the EB3 bonnets simply feeds air into the cabin ventilation system, not into the engine bay.

hey guys,
just wondering what you people think is the best civic bonnet for the first gen civic shape
(77 and watever other years look the same)
is there much difference in the weight? and what about that scoop thing on the (78?)
does that increase the air intake at all? haha hardly, but yeah
wats the best overall bonnet you say?
