Thanks Neil! I think you nailed that one. That made since to me, especially since when it was doing this and the car was not even running but I had the key in the ignition it would those rapib clicking sounds. So I took out the back seat and everything. And it looked like the fule line from the filter to the pump had a kink in it. So I let it just hang out and took it for a test drive and ran great. I reassembled the fule area in such a way that the lines cannot (or should not) get any kinks.
Thanks!! You rock!

Hey Jeff:
If you haven't already done so, check the line between the tank and pump. Make sure there are no obstructions. These diaphragm pumps keep pumping until they build up the required pressure, and then stop. If there is no fuel entering the pump, it will just keep running.

Yes, It's in the engine bay. Under the rear seat is a brand new fuel pump and fuel filter. Then, in the engine bay is a 6" tall back cyclinder thing (about the size of the ignition coil) that has a fuel line coming into it and the a line out to the carb.

Is it in the engine bay? Could be the inline fuel filter your looking at. Oh, and yes they can become clogged.

Hey guys, last week my fuel pump went out on me (or at least I thought!). When I was driving the car, it would just go dead like it was out of gas. The fuel pump was making some very loud and rapid clicking sounds. I figured that the pump went out. Today I bought a new pump for it and installed it. Good news is that the car cranks right up. However, I am still having those same problems. The loud and rapid clicking is still present. I figure that the pump is having to work extremely hard to get fuel to the carb. Possible clog somewhere? As, under the hood, I see a black cylinder piece that the fuel line from the pump comes into and then a line that exits to the carb. Anyone know what this piece is and if it could be the problem?
Thanks.
