so my assumption, considering the fact that there is an "up" mark un the cam pully, is correct?

I've never replaced that gasket on my Honda, but other thermostat housing gaskets I've replaced I made sure both surfaces were completely cleaned of the old gasket, and used a thin coat of gasket sealer.

thank you, jonathan.
i'm going to pick up a more detailed manual. it seems that most manuals tell you what to do only under the proper curcumstances. i guess, it wouldn't be practical to do it otherwise.
called honda and they have the gasket for $2.50. last one. should i use gasket sealer? i'm never sure(other than intake/exhaust gaskets) when sealer is nessesary.

With the engine at top dead center, the cam pulley should be with the "UP" in the up position. I'll see if I can scan the pages in from a manual I have at home with more detailed procedures.

jon, yes the gasket is number 6 on the diagram, thanks.
the cam pully does say "up" on it. it was pulled as a complete unit, so it still should be right. anyway, if i'm not mistaken there is a woodruff key that will only allow the pulley on one way.

thanks,
david

David, are there any markings that say "UP" on your cam pulley, or anything else? Also, is the gasket you're looking for number 6 in this picture?

tstat

If it is, that's the distributor holder gasket, part number 19312-657-010 for a '79 CVCC, may be different for other years. Check out www.slhondaparts.com, they have great diagrams on there.

Also, what's the gasket called that goes in between the housing that holds the dizzy (and the thermostat)to the right side of the head. I called a local honda dealer and the parts guy didn't really know what i was talking about.
CVCC's are new to me.

hey all,
I'm trying to get an ek motor running. The cam broke on it. For reasons i'm not sure of, he didn't pay good attention to what car he pulled the replacment one out of and the valves would not adjust. Thats where i come in. My approach was that the cam was probaly not aligned right in the first place, so i didn't bother to do the proper markings when i took the cam out. I figured that if i got the crank to TDC and then postioned the cam(correct used cam with new cam gear) at about the degree it should be in by the picture in the book then twiddled with it until it was aligned that should be fine.
any fundamental flaws that i'm not thinking of.
just thought i'd run this by you guys.

thank you,
david
