I got the rear seat late Friday afternoon but there is a slight problem with it. I need to know if you are still going to want it.
The seat rails are in.
Give me a call.

David, there are autocross events happening in your area most weekends at PIR. Go to one, enter and race your car like crazy! It a huge rush once you get started, and there is nothing like beating your best time (and the other guys) with an old Honda. Road Racing is hard-core, and autocrossing is a logical step towards getting there. I've seen guys try autocrossing and not like it, so it's worth the try. Road racing requires a larger budget and more time.

ps. we are in portland area as well.
By david (216.99.219.80) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 11:22 pm: |
don, i'm in portland. i'd like to start autocrossing, but i think i need to get a solid engine in my car first. i finally have a good base car to start from. a straight '76 with the EK i've been talking about. its got solid brakes/suspention. i've got openable strut castings with very low mile kybs and a set of wagon springs i'm gonna throw on soon. getting this non-cvcc head has really opened up the spark i had lost with my beat up '73. i'm also going to school and, above all, don't have that much time.
its just i've been geeking on these cars for a couple years now and never really had one running right. i need to do it or move on. i've gone at things before with zeal, but no brains.
when i get the car on the road, i'll drive down and we'll do an autocross or something.
david
By Don (199.2.139.205) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:01 pm: |
David The best way to start road racing is to start autocrossing. It will teach you how to control and setup your car and is allot cheaper than road racing to start. Its not slow by any means. After you have done that for a while then you can step up. Several experenced racers have told me that the best road racers start as autocrossers. Is it true? Who knows but I have had allot of fun over the 2003 season and me and my car are a ton better because of it.
Where are you in Oregon?
By david (216.99.219.174) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 09:41 pm: |
Don, do you go to the meetings or just meet the other scca people at races? seems like most of the events are fairly far south. i don't even have the damn thing running... thanks, though.
On closer inspection the head says "EF1-A2809". I grabbed a 4 port intake(EF4)/exhaust(M4) manifold from another engine(cvcc) and it seems to fit. I must assume that if the mounts line up, then the ports do too. i am not looking forward to blocking off all those inlets and tubes on it. i got a 32/36 weber with a matched/ported cvcc manifold(EF1) off a 1.5 cvcc and that wasn't even close. anyway, what i really need to know is if the EK valves/springs/rockers/cam are the same as the non cvcc? i've read everything i can find on this board about the canadian heads, but i still have more questions. the rest i can learn from my honda books.
sorry to be talking about this on an unrelated post, but i'm very interested in this new bit thats come my way.

i hade a question mainly for you canadians.
i just got what i think is an EL head. how do you know if its the later or the earlier one? it has the designation of HF 2... on the side. havn't opened it up yet. are the valves the same as the EK? any info on this head would be great. i've very stoked on the idea of not having to deal with the cvcc stuff.

Bryan has a Civic 1200 AND he has a nice machine shop. Check the Adjustable Cam gear thread for contact info.
Jeff Houghton? Never said a price but he is a Datsun guy so he knows what things are worth. If somebody is interested I can tell him your number, e-mail, ETC... You would deal direct with him, I'm not interested in making a $ cut off Civic people. I have seen the manifold and carbs. Last word (Today) He is using the carbs on a D-mod Sprite unless someone offered enough to buy other replacements, But the manifold while a little dirty is a nice piece.

The REAL Oregon Civic get together was about 4 hrs south this weekend.
Fellow Civic freak Charles R and I won our classes at the SSCC Spring Enduro. My car still has fuel starvation issues but thanks to Charles’s help and advice we have a pretty good idea of the path to fix it. You will all be pleased to know that the Civic wuuped on the 510 by about 20 seconds despite almost dieing twice and going 8\10ths around the rest of the corners to keep fuel slosh in the carb to a minimum.
Racers from CA, ID, WA were there so there was always someone running somthing cool and fast. $40 bucks got you 2.5 days of WOT and free to spectators
Thanks To Bryan Maloof who did my 1200 engine :-) Its worth shipping him your engine.
Also talked to the guy with the 1500 CVCC dual 40 weber manifold its still for sale. I will see him again in three weeks.

The first gens at the Eugene B&R are fairly picked over. They still have windows, rear seats and such, but are pretty much ready for the crusher. B&R told me they no longer hold first gens but send them straight to the crusher. The two or three still there are tucked away in a back corner that is hard for the fork lift to get to, requiring they move a few cars out of the way to reach them, which is why they still have them.

Justin- Thanks for looking for that cowl for me. If you can find one one the way down that would be great. B & R Auto Wrecking is about 20 minutes away from here. I called them today and they told me they don't have any first gen Civics at that yard but may have some in their Eugene yard. That's several hours away. I couldn't find any wrecking yards that are open on Sundays. How long were you planning to stay in Portland?
Twyla- I will be at the shop at about 9:00am. Was going to get there earlier but remembered that Sunday is the start of daylight savings time. We'll probably head up to the park about noon. That should give everyone time to get to my shop.
I've already bought soda and bottled water but feel free to bring some of those famous homemade cookies that Kyle mentioned.
Kyle- If you can bring chips and whatever else you want to bring that would be great. I'm planning on bringing potato salad and maybe some other stuff.
Calvin- I've got a bag of charcoal that I can bring if needed.
Here's the address to my shop again-
9112 SE Woodstock Blvd.
Portland, OR 97266
Phone: 503-777-5712 Call for directions.
Bring your cell phone if you have one. If anyone gets there after we head up to the park you can call for directions. It's just a few blocks away.
The weather for Sunday is looking good so far.

OK guys and gals - one week left. It's a beautiful day here in Portland today which scares me 'cause we rarely get 2 great Sundays in a row. SO - EVERYBODY KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR GOOD WEATHER!
Justin- I see that you plan on hitting some wreckers on the way down. I could give you a list of stuff I need but I'm not gonna do that. There is, however, one thing that I've been looking. If you happen to come across an air dam for the hood of my 1978 1500, could you grab it for me. I can't find anywhere. If anyone else has one laying around you can bring it. Thanks
Jeremy- Are you still planning on bringing the meat & buns? Calvin is bringing the grill but it won't be much of a BBQ without something to throw on it. Let me know.
If anyone else is planning on bringing food let me know so I'll know what else I need to get.
Any questions? Post them here or email me.
Can't wait to see all of you next week and don't forget to pray for a sunny day.

HELLO ALL,
I was reading a little on the board and WOW there is a get together!
I HAVE A BIG GRILL!!! I will bring it. I may not be able to stay real long as I am moving into our first house that weekend but I will leave the grill if needed and come back for it.
I will be driving my truck full of stuff and towing at least one car. I NEED A LONG TRAILER IF ANY ONE IN THE PORTLAND AREA HAS ONE I CAN BORROW. Thanks.
For sale:
82 Accord set up for RallyCross or...? $500 OBO
83 Civic needs clutch. $200 OBO
Soooo much crap for the Accord or a 1st Gen Civic I can and will not list it here. I would like some money for the "crap" but that is up in the air.
I want to bring Frito's 73 also if I can; I do not know what he wants for it.
Does anyone have a trailer that will fit these 3 cars? Please? PLEASE?
If there are some for sure car buyers let me know so I can make sure to bring the ones that are not going home with me.
Sue can I show up a little early? Set up the BBQ and whatnot.
Thanks,
Calvin

A BBQ sounds ok with me. Did you want to have it here in our parking lot or just meet here and maybe drive somewhere for the BBQ? Its up to you guys. This lot will hold about a dozen cars.
I can supply soda, chips, & paper plates. I also have a refrigerator if need to keep stuff cold.
Hey Frito, why don't you ask Calvin if he can come.

I can't do it during spring break cause I am going mountain biking in Moab, Utah. What about like a week before or after? I am guessing after would work better for david so he can have time to get a car running. Let me know what you guys think.
Jeremy
By david (209.152.48.239) on Monday, February 16, 2004 - 12:48 pm: |

Late June-ish is good. Will be much warmer then and hopefully not so rainy!
By david (216.99.197.160) on Sunday, February 15, 2004 - 02:38 pm: |

By Run0RoundSue (198.81.26.75) on Thursday, February 12, 2004 - 04:57 pm: |
Whether you race or not I'd like to come just to see the other Civics. Would have to be in Portland. If it's not raining I'll be driving the convertible, otherwise I'll be in my wagon. Sundays are probably better than Saturdays but if I know a head of time I can close the shop for a day.
By scholzj (67.171.200.238) on Thursday, February 12, 2004 - 01:11 pm: |
corvallis so either p-town or eugene is good. I am almost exactly in the middle of them both.
Jeremy
By david (209.152.48.219) on Thursday, February 12, 2004 - 09:14 am: |
no prob. just thought it'd be fun. so we have 3. jeremy, where are you?
david
By scholzj (67.171.200.238) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 11:01 pm: |
Yeah I kind of agree with Landon, I don't mind if we don't get a track. I would just like to get together and see everyone's cars.
Jeremy
By Landon White (Landon) (24.17.96.122) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 10:59 pm: |
I'd try to show up. I'm in Seattle so Portland would be my preference. Also, since my car's absolutely in no shape for a track, I don't mind if no track is involved - mostly I want to see other Civics.

k so who would be interested? if you are interested let us know your name and where you are coming from and if you have a preference between portland or eugene.
That sound good David?
Jeremy
By david (198.245.131.62) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 05:45 pm: |
first off. Portland or Eugene? Eugene may be more invititing to the n. cali folks, but portland would be nice for the northern washington people.
then we would need to have a certain amonut of people commited if we were to rent a track. if we know where most of the honda dorks are coming from we can get a better idea where to have it.
david
By scholzj (128.193.210.185) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 01:15 pm: |
any ideas of a track that we could use for cheap?
Jeremy
By david (209.152.48.180) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 12:45 pm: |
I'm in. I'd be willing to put in cash for a track if need be. i want to see other first gens, but it would be nice to get some action.
