it's the same on the rears, leave the red/black hooked upto the parking light circuit. Hook the ground from the sidemarker to the turnsignal circuit(same colors as the front turnsignals)

Justin, have you ever converted the rear side markers to flash as turnsignals as well? If so, which wire connected to where?

That would be cool and I have already done the H4 headlight conversion.

Hey Kurt, here's an idea I thought you might like, If you do the H4 lense conversion, they have spots in them to install city lights, and I think it was Eurolite makes 194 wedge bulbs using 2 high intesity LED's, would count as a front turn signal with out being obtrusive on the grill? Just a thought

Ya works great. I had diiferent reasons for doing it though as without it working I would have no front signals.
I am using the older bumpers on my ar so I lose the 78-79 ones that fit under the bumper. I wanted to ditch the front lights on the grill so I decided to convert the side marker lights to turn signals. I figure they stick out far enough so people can see them from the front anyway. Next I'll have to try some LED bulbs.

Cool!! I just wired my 83 Civic sedan as listed and it works great! I always wondered how that was done. Thanks for the "how to" Justin.

The sidemarker will flash at the same time as the front turnsignal, when the parking lights are off. when the parking lights are on they will alternate(EX: front on/side off..front off/side on.. etc etc)

Kurt,
Now that you have it working, I need to know..
When you have the headlight switch in the off position and turn on the signals, do the sidemarkers flash then too? Or is it only when the headlights are switched on?

I'm a friggn' idiot.
Never doubt the King. The flasher I had replaced wasn't even the turn signal flasher is was the little one next to it (4 way flasher). I tried a different flasher and it worked
By Kurt (142.179.34.133) on Saturday, March 06, 2004 - 03:59 pm: |
Thanks for checking....
Thats strange thats the way I had them wired but the stupid things won't flash. I have some different flashers kicking around maybe I'll try those. Maybe its the year 78 ?

okay...
front right side marker (blk/red stays connected)
blk is connected to the grn/yellow front turnsignal line.
front left side marker (blk/red stays connected)
blk is connected to the green/blue front turnsignal line.
It should be work, all of the one's I have done have worked fine.

If you could check that would be great. I have tried other combinations but am running out of fuses!
Thanks Justin.

That's strange... all you need is the red/black wire hooked up and the turnsignal wire for side that your working on..
I'll double check mine

Okay, I got a new Carter 20A flasher from Lordco today but it didn't work either. The hazards all work hookeed up like that but the marker lights still don't flash. Do I have to do anything with the rear lights for this to work?

Get a New flasher, the old style runs on resistance, and when you do the turnsignal/parking light trick, it it to much for the little flasher to handle, you can pick up a new one at any local parts store, or borrow one from a newer car to try it.

Hey Kurt,
Do you happen to have a gold 78 with a 87 crx motor in it? If so, can you post some pics of how you mounted the motor. Thanks
By Kurt (142.179.34.133) on Tuesday, March 02, 2004 - 04:37 pm: |
The dash indicator goes solid as does the rear turn signal light but the front marker light turns off.
Whats an electroninc flasher...you mean a new relay? The relay works with the regular signals.

it should flash... does the rear turnsignal go solid?(aswell as the dash indicator)? If so try a electronic flasher..

I tried Justin's suggestion today:
"To get your sidemarkers to flash as turnsignals with one bulb, just disconnect the ground wire, and hook it up to the turnsignal wire. When you turn on the parking lights they will ground thru the turnsignal wire and turn on, and when you flash the turnsignal, they both have power so the light flashes off. I've done this to a few cars, works great...Idiot driver's can see that you want to change lanes."
It didn't work Justin, have I done something wrong?
Connections:
- red and black wire left connected as is.
- Ground (black) wire disconnected and green and
yellow wire connected to black wire coming off of
side marker light.
Light turned on with headlights but turned off when I put the turn signal on.
The car is a 78 if it matters?
Thanx,
Kurt
