Brandon, I'd check the basics first, spark, timing, points, HT leads, coil. If the spark's okay you might want to check the ignition timing before laying into anything major. My carb was full of gunk but still ran fine. It wasn't fine after it had been rebuilt though! The idiot that did it put the float needle in way too far and blocked off the fuel supply!

Another thing is what's the fuel filter like? If the carb jets are blocked then I'm wondering if there's bits of crud in the fuel that's blocking them.

Keil, I think you hit the nail on the head! I'm was having the same issue with the breather system but I didn't know that it related to the water issue, I drive the car back and forth to work which is only about 3 miles away, from now on I'll give it a good run around before shutting her down, I'm also having problems restarting the car after I turn it off (say to run into a store or something) I have to pump the pedal and crank the starter for way too long before it putts to life. Think the two problems are at all related??

Here's my 2 cents

I had a similar problem with my EB3. There was gunk and moisture in the top of the carb/ air cleaner case and when I took the oil filler cap off the rocker cover the underside of the cap was full of mayo. I thought the head gasket had gone but the oil on the dipstick was fine. What I traced it to was the rocker breather system. There was a factory spec pipe sucking oil and water vapour into the air cleaner case to be sent into the cylinders to be burnt. (part of emissions control) However, the cool surface inside the air cleaner was condensing it out inside the case instead, hence water and oil gunk. That and the condensation inside the rocker cover was exascerbated by the fact I was only running the car for a couple of minutes every now and again to make sure everything was in running order.

In short I ripped this pipe out and installed a K&N crankcase breather filter. I now run the car for about an hour each time to properly cook the water out from the top of the engine. Early results = no mayo.

Brandon, has a head gasket ever been done on the car? CVCC's are particularly prone to gasket failure, and you may be pulling in small amounts of coolant into the crankcase. Are you losing any coolant? How far do you drive the car? If you only go for a few minutes, condensation can build up. If you have the time, take the car for a nice, long drive, and see how it looks the next day. Hopefully it's only from taking lots of short trips, not anything major. I can't promise that either one of these is your problem, I've had a condensation issue in my Jeep for a while now. I'm not losing any coolant, and even after a 600 mile trip I still fill the air cleaner housing with water. I can't figure that one out.

I have a 78 cvcc 1500 and I've been noticing that it seems to be especially suseptable to moisture lately, I started it the other morning and it wasn't running well so I took off the air filter and looked into the carbs, the middle barrel's butterfly had little water bubbles all over it so I opened the throttle and sucked them into the engine, it choked for a second but was fine after that and ran well for the rest of the day. it did the same thing today, it has been raining/snowing for the last two days. any suggestions on how to keep condensation out of the carbs?
