Just done the coversion in sydney.
I put a dual M/cyclinder and booster from a 78 civic into my 74 and there is a few little complications.
1: the mounting on the firewall is not the same. My 74 had 2 bolts welded to connect my original m/c and the bottom 2 holes had nuts welded onto the firewall. to fit the 78 booster and m/c you will need to drop the pedal box inside to be able to redrill the 4 holes to mount the booster.
2: my 74 only had 1 brake line going to rear and was joined from the rear to the other side. the 78 set up had a seperate line to each wheel and uses compensation valves to provide a fail-safe system.
I pulled out the brake lines from the later model and installed them in mine with the comp. valves
But it's worth the hassle my brakes are now fantastic

Shea's car was built in October or November 1975, and the tandem master cylinder was a factory unit from 73 to 76 in Canada, 77-79 had a single.

Sleepy,
Mine's actually an "Imported To Canada" model...According to my title search, it was originally sold (registered) May 5th, 1976 in Ajax, Ontario. It could actually be the same age (or older) than yours! Maybe somebody's already dicked around and changed the master on mine...Colin would know better than me. Or maybe Canadian cars were just equipped differently. We did, after all, get factory 5-speeds in '78 and '79 here, when the US market cars didn't...

Shea

Hey Shea,
thanx for the help. You must have a later model 76. My one was made on March 76. I dont know if all the US 76 models came out with M/cs and booster.
Yeah I have been looking at the local wreckers. My friends car 78-79 is still there. He had alot of work done to his engine & car ie new pistons, webbers, exhaust system etc but all thats left on it is the head and block. If i had an eb engine in mine I would take it for sure but it is a few years old prone to all sorts of weather.
Cheers

Sleepy,
I'm sure more knowledgeable folks than me will chime in eventually. I would guess that since these cars did come from the factory, you "should" be able to just swap factory parts...I'm at a loss about this firewall plate you're talking about, though.
My '76 is equipped stock with the dual master and power booster. I hope someone with more knowledge will post soon to help you out.
Do you have access to any local wrecking yards with some of these cars in them? Many times cars at "the boneyard" are quite disassembled and you can get a good look at what's there.
Best of luck with your project, I hope a smooth solution presents itself.
Regards,
Shea

Hey all,
I was just wondering if someone would be able to give me a little help.
I have a 3/76 built Honda Civic that originally came with only a single master cylinder with no brake booster. Did anyone have the same set up and upgraded to a tandem master and booster?
I just completed a 4 x 100 brake upgrade on the front and was going to fit an EN1 tandem master + booster but the guy who did my brakes said that there was a backing plate for where the booster was to fit and for him to modify the car to use an En1 tandem master and booster was for me to take out the engine and remove the plate. Which will take up too many man hours.
Does anyone know if an EB series tandem master cylinder + booster will bolt straight onto a car that was setup to only use a single master cylinder with no booster? Ive looked in one of my manuals and the single master's linkage and mounts look different to the tandem master + booster set up.
If I wont be able to use the booster would I be able to use just the tandem master cylinder without having to mod anything?
I wish i could post some pics but cant at the moment. On mine, the single master bolts onto a square metal plate thats on the firewall.
Help would be much appreciated as my engineer needs to certify that I am using a tandem master cylinder for me to get my blue slips.
Cheers
