I have found that the 82-83 EL head is a match to the 82-83 EL. Most guys swap there 82-83 EK head for the 82-83 EL head to ditch the CVCC (on Canadian EL's anyway). From what I have heard they use the same intake and exhaust mani's but I assume you have to block the CVCC ports on the intake, or just get the non CVCC intake when you get the head.

David,
I have the early EL head (1979), and I've found that most of the parts from the EK1 head fit the EL. I haven't swapped valves, retainers, and keepers, but I eyeballed/measured some of them last night and they look to be the same parts (I can take better measurements, if needed). I have swapped the cam, rockers, rocker shaft, valve cover, distributor housing, intake manifold, seals, and gaskets between the two. I don't know about the 82-83 EK1, but Rick has/had one, so he's the guy to ask about those.

i took the head to a place in town(portland, OR) called aluminum head rebuilders. the guy knew exactly what it was. i was impressed. he seemed to think there was no difference between the EL and the EK heads other than the cvcc.

Dan....EK1, also has good info on that head. I have one of his EL heads at my shop right now. I am not an expert on these though. The valves are oversize in it, so measuring them would not be of any help.

with the third generation civics a popular thing to do is swap the SI head onto the DX block because the head is a 12 valve non-CVCC head. the reason i am bringing this up is because i order to use the stock DX carb and manifold on the SI head you need to modify it slightly by grinding out passages for the CVCC ports to flow into the main ports. this image shows what i mean, (it is if a 3G manifold tho)

i would suspect something of the same concept could be used with the EL/EK combination, i would think that you can't just block the port because you would be getting fuel pooling with no airflow. ideally you would get am EL manifold right?

my bullish streak may be coming out here, but i had a couple questions about the canadian EL head. the new conversation button finally came back, so i can put up a proper thread.
first off, will the internal parts from any of the cvcc heads fit in the EL. EK parts are easy to get, so i was hoping... i will order from canada if need be. also, i have a late EL head with late EK manifolds. i'm putting on a weber 32/36 dgv. has anyone used the late EK intake on the EL head? what mods did you do? obviously, i'm going to have to block off all the extra inlets, but i'm wondering about cutting out the divider under the carb and blocking the cvcc tubes. if anyone has an EL intake, mabey that'll be an option. any info would be great.
thanks,
david W.
