I just measured up a new B-36 bearing I have (Federal-Mogul 2 piece inner race). Both inner races are the same size at 35.0 mm. I don't have an extra hub to measure up, though.

Sorry.. I bought the car about two weeks ago. I haven't rebuilt the hub before, it just has new parts on the front driver's side and the passenger side looks like hell..

I never wrote the # down. Just measured everything and pressed away. To my knowlege nothing was changed size wise. It would be easy to find out. Go to Majestic Hondas web site and if the # for the 73 parts is the same as the 79 1200 then you probably got a bearing that somebody mixed up and put back on the shelf. If the other side was re built what bearing did you use the last time?

oops, i posted a reply in the wrong thread.

The other thing I forgot to mention in the reply is that the inner race of the bearing itself is 35mm not 36mm.. there's no reason that wear and tear would make it smaller than the new part. Did these cars change their wheel bearings or anything? has anyone taken a micrometer to their hub to verify that the hub diameter is 36mm before installing the bearings from napa, lordco or canadain tire? I just wanted to be a dancer

I rebuilt mine with bearings from Napa and had no problems.
The bearing should have a # listed on the face some place does it match the box? The machinist should have measured before he started pressing so if the bearing is damaged it probably not returnable regardless. You mentioned "all messed up" is the knuckle or hub damaged previously? Go get a dial caliper... fast easy to use and keep it clean I paid less than $20 for mine at Harbor Freight tools. I think I saw a special where they have a digital for not much more. After you get the pieces all apart measure them. You can post the measurements someone should have a hub apart to compare with. PS Do both sides at once and save yourself the hassle 6 months from now if your going to keep the Civic.

Richard,
YIKES! I'm really sorry to hear about your misfortune.
I haven't rebuilt mine yet, but in researching parts on the internet, I believe I, also, came up with the same number-NAPA # BRG B36.
If this IS the right number, you might be in some kind of trouble, like some kind of odd wear or damage on your wheel hub? Dunno, like I said, I haven't taken mine apart yet.
Being that the part came from Crappy Tire, I wonder if perhaps it might not have been the wrong part in the right package? Don't laugh, I used to work for them and that's (unfortunately) not too uncommon.
Did your machinist friend keep the old bearing, or has it been chucked out? If you've still got it, take a look at the edge of the outer race, sometimes bearing manufacturers put a number there (stamped in) which would let you get an accurate cross-reference number.
Hopefully someone here who's already done the job or knows the parts for sure, will chime in.
I wish you the best of luck and for sure will be watching this for future reference.
Regards,
Shea

Hey folks, I've got a 1977 US style Honda Civic 1.2L. The front passenger side is all messed up and I need to rebuild it. I bought a rotor, caliper, brake pads, CV, grease seals, and new studs as well as a new front wheel bearing. I phoned around to NAPA, Lordco , Canadian Tire and a bearing shop in town to find the bearing. All of them tell me that the car uses a "B36 two piece inner race bearing". I ended up getting the bearing from canadian tire because it was in stock. To my eye it looked right and the seals were right, so I had it pressed in by a machine shop. The machinist scratches his head and tells me that this is the wrong bearing. The outer bearing race is the right radius, but the inner is off by 1mm. Is this what most people have rebuilt their front ends with? can anyone give me a corrent number so I can go cause some noise at canadian tire? I hate dealing tih the wrong parts . In hindsight I should have measured it with a micrometer, but it's too late to remove it in one piece. help!
