The gearing is pretty tall for the smaller motors, for what I have heard anyway.

it was a hondmatic (or 3 spd auto, i never drove the thing on any roads so i dont know) but its gone now, i got home today and it turns out they sent ot over to the fire house to have take the jaws to it, oh well. speaking of transmissions, how are the 82-83 Accord 5-speeds?

By Kurt (66.183.137.163) on Thursday, April 22, 2004 - 08:31 pm:

Its too bad the tranny is hooped as the 80 Civic 5 speed is the one you want.

in that case there is a good chance i've got one (well sort of) over at a friends farm we've got an '80 civic that we beat the crap out of, (hondamatic, the tranny has a rather large hole [oops] so the car is pretty non-functional at the moment, it had sat for 4 years before we got it and it was in in pretty bad condition all over) it's a 1300 cross-flow but i never did check the engine code.

An EN1 is basically Canada's replacement for the CVCC EJ1 that we got in the states. The EN1 is basically an EB3 that has the stroker kit installed from the factory. The EN1 has what is ultimately an EB3 head, non-cvcc/crossflow. It's got the extra displacement because the factory installed the crank/rods from the EJ1 giving it an 82mm stroke instead of the 76mm stroke of the EB3.

That's right, Andrew.

forgive me is this is a stupid question but what is the EN motor? is this another Canadian model that doesn't show up on most lists?

By Jonny (24.68.208.246) on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 05:25 pm:

Thats so funny any time I go to Lordco here on the Island and ask for parts for a 80ish EN motor they always give me parts for a EJ motor

Mine's not a wagon.

If I understand correctly that is a preferable head for an EK block then the stocker but why it is on a 1500 Block is Beyond me it ran poorly always overheating and what not now i have gone to a 1200 but I have to rig up a front motor mount anyway Thanks for all the Help fellas

oh, and i should also note that my wagon is a second generation civic and in that era the 4 door sedan came with the CVCC as well. but i think the second generation wagons came with the 1300 in Canada because every time i buy parts the computers say my car is a 1300.

By -Andrew Smit- (Cvcc_Wagon) (64.110.243.159) on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 01:13 pm:

if that was directed at me, i inherited my car from my dad who originally bought it in Seattle, it is a California model with the CVCC engine.

DingleBalls, according to all the reading i have done here, the EL-1 head is the more desirable head because of the non-CVCC. lucky you :)

By Jonathan (66.252.173.251) on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 12:04 pm:

Is your car a wagon? The only cars with the CVCC engine in Canada were the 2/3 door Civics that weren't 1200's (to the best of my knowledge).

By DingleBalls (67.70.137.60) on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 11:58 am:

Indeed the first one looks pretty much the same as the one I have thanks for the help so that is the EL head from a 1600 accord ? I am in canada so probably some time in the cars life they put it on there.

By -Andrew Smit- (Cvcc_Wagon) (64.201.212.89) on Monday, April 19, 2004 - 11:35 pm:

it's probably the non-CVCC EL-1 head off the Canadian 1.6l (79-83 Accord/ 79-82 Prelude) do a search on this site and you will find some info.
these are a couple pics from another thread, the first is of the CDM EL-1 and the second is the USDM EK-1 (the EK-1 is a CVCC head as well, from the US Accord/Prelude from the same years)

It's an ED engine code but the head seems to be wrong or so it would seem any1 else got any opinions it is a 78 CvCC that third "Valve" isn't on the head I have it taken apart

By Andrew Smit (Cvcc_Wagon) (69.11.58.45) on Sunday, April 18, 2004 - 01:07 pm:

are you sure it's an 8 valve head, the CVCC valve does not actually protrude into the combustion chamber , the head looks like this:

HF-1 is not an engine code i have ever heard of, i believe the code is on the back of the engine where the transmission bolts up, perhaps someone could verify that.

By DingleBalls (67.70.137.60) on Sunday, April 18, 2004 - 08:09 am:

Ok I have a 78 honda Civic 1500 by the looks of the VIN now I have taken the engine out and I see that the head is a 4 port exhaust 4 port intake head I thought this strange since cvcc have only 2 exhaust ports except for 75 or so i have heard I also thouught CVCC Head was a 12 Valve but this head is an 8v the only marking i could find was HF-1

So do you guys know whats goin on there has there been a change of parts on the engine since factory or something.

Any Info Much Appreciated
