Al Bee,

You could have your car appraised by an independant car appraisal service. Maybe ask your insurance company that you intend to use to see if there is someone that they could recomend. They will appraise the value of the car which may help in lowering or raising the premium of the car. The person that owned my civic before I bought it, had it done, and it was valued at $2500. She then found herself in a small collision and the damage that was on the car would have written it off without the appraisal. She then sold it to me. I insured the car, and even with the damage not being fixed the premium of the car was almost as much as my 78 3/4 ton 4x4, because the car was a civic and it had been appraised.

nothing over 2" and make sure you put a flex pipe in between the header and the exhaust, or you will crack your headers. I run 1 7/8ths....I have no problems

I have a friend who has a Nissan (piece of crap) Silvia with the SR20DE (2.0l) and 2.25"-2.5" is the recommended for those engines. For one nearly half the size i would have thought that 2.25" was still a little overboard. Maybe only 2"? It is still an improvement over factory. That and bin the cat convertor!

"Did you gain anything in performance? A mechanic I talked to said I would LOSE bottom and mid-range power with just an exhaust..."

i lost a little bottom end, mid and upper range improved. went from a top speed of 95mph to 100mph :P the general rule of thumb i have been told is not to go over 2.25"

If you have an exhaust that is correctly matched to your engine you can gain power, however if you go overboard (as many younger people seem inclined to do :) ) you can completely destroy all bottom end torque and wind up with a loud, crap, and extra slow car!

i have an 83 Civic CVCC with 2.25" exhaust (from down-pipe, no cat and a blow thru muffler) and it crackles and pops a lot, i read in my manual about having to remove the carb to adjust the mixture so i decided to leave it till i have to pull the carb for something else

If I add an after market exhaust to my bone stock 1500 CVCC will I need to adjust the carb to tune it? My understanding is that to get to the air mixture screw, you have to remove the carb and drill out some rivits that hold a plate which blocks access to the screw... I guess they didn't want you messing with em...

Anyway, I'm looking for a little sound and better low, mid range throttle response... Anything to be gained from an exhaust and if so do I need to deal with the carb as described above?

THANKS!
