black smoke might suggest oil in the gas. How's the compression?

Felipe, the Idle Mixture Screw is used to adjust the idle mixture. It has no effect when driving at high rpm, or at wide open throttle. It sounds like the problem is in the carburetor secondary, but I don't know anything about the Keihin 2-bbl carbs (mine's a 3-bbl CVCC). Sorry. Dan

but now i have fully closed the mixture screw and nothing happens the car still keeps throwing black smoke! (fully turn clockwise)

if it was running rich you should have tightened it.

Turn the screw in (clockwise) to lean the mixture, and out to enrich it.

Good lord, I was thinking, my engine looks nothing like that, then i realised that entire thing is just the carby. Oh dear, i'll give it a shot when my dad gets back on monday, he at least knows what he's doing.
Thankyou very much for the diagram, thats a big help.
Cheers.

and no need to apologise... I'm in the same situation as u as this is my first car too
These 1200 civics are possibly THE best cars to learn about engines (and all the rest) on.

Hey all, i'm a friend of UberDork's and am helping him with the car. after we put the new plugs in, it was damn near a new engine. sounded much healthier and a bit more beefy. after we adjust the air/fuel screw in the carby its gonna be running like a dream.
would anyone know where the air/fuel mix screw is?

0.6mm for the plugs. use a good gap tool..

Hi all,
Could anyone tell me the correct spark gap for this engine?? I'm going to get a new set of spark plugs this arvo and I want to set them correctly before I install them.
Also, if anybody has a diagram of the carby, or a pic that shows where the screw is for fuel mixture adjustment that would be a BIG help as my car's running very rich at the moment.
Thanks for any help.
