I would Check the ground first. I think that is something as simple as that. Might be the ignition wire at the solenoid or inside the starter itself. The solenoid pushes a plunger into a copper washer, it could be worn out, but it would have became gradually worse. eg. 1 click then start, and the next time maybe 2 clicks, and sometimes no clicks, just starts.

battery is tight, maybe its a bad ground on the volt reg Im thinking, its pretty cruddy back there, what about a starter soleniod.

You mentioned that you changed the voltage regulator and that it ran well. next morning, not so good. Sounds like a simple loose connection somewhere. When you changed the regulator maybe you bumped something and made a better connection somewhere, and the vibration of the car running made the connection not as good. Check all the connections, even inside the insulation boots. Sometimes when connections are taken apart and put together many times, it takes it's toll on the wire along with corrosion in the insulation. I'd start with the ignition wire that sends the signal to the starter.

I'd try cleaning and tightening your battery connections. I got this problem when I put a new battery in. idiot lights and wipers worked, but not a good enough connection to rotate the starter.

If you suspect the ignition switch is faulty simply turn the key to the accessesory position and then jump the starter with a srcewdriver. If the starter spins your ignition switch is shot. http://www.civic1200.com/discus/

Yeah starter and check your alternator as well. If your alternator is failing to charge your battery your car will be hard to start and your battery will be drained.

Check your connections to your battery and starter. Loose or corroded connections could give the symptoms you describe.

Car acts like it has a dead battery, when the key is turned the idiot lights come on and the buzzer comes on, but when the key is turned to the start position it dies?
Battery is good any ideas? Ignition switch?
