I don't really know anything about stroking the motors, I just read something where someone mentioned it. No hilp there Can't say if its been or not and have not researched it myself. Perhaps its using EK rods in a EL block ??

Sorry Greg Tingler, I was addressing Kurk's post of 5-1-04 @ 4:10pm where he stated something about stroking these things. Hey - 1300dx; how did you get 1894cc out of which engine using EK pistons?
By greg tingler (Tropic81) (141.153.93.43) on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - 06:09 am: |
I didn't have the engine stroked. It was just bored over .30 The rods and pistons, however, came from A/T Engineering. I am considering selling the engine, but I am on the fence as to whether to use the EK1 or try and H22 conversion in a '81 Prelude.

How did you stroke the EK1 engine? I haven't heard about this set up yet. Which crank and rods are being used?
By greg tingler (Tropic81) (141.153.93.43) on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 - 01:37 pm: |
Nice to find this site. I didn't think anyone worked with the EK1. I have an EK1 from a '79 Accord with the following mods:
EL head (port matched, oversize valves, silicon bronze valve guides, heavier springs and shaved .30 over);
.420 lift 296 duration cam;
pacesetter header;
block (.30 over cylinders) forged rods and pistons, chrome-molly rings, deck surfacing;
lightened flyweel;
custom dual exhaust
I would love to get an intake for the dual carb set-up. Can you provide any info on where I could get one. I also need an adjustible cam gear and recurved distributor if you have any info on those items.

The manifolds and header I have are not for sale at this time.

hey H,
do you want to sell me that 79-81 side draft manifold? the motor that Justin & Wil put in my car is a 1981 Honda Prelude 1600cc non cvcc.

Elv and Kyle, emails sent..
Can't cay I am happy to hear about Andre's. I took it there as Justin had his done there and we all know how nice they look! They mentioned someone that had the body work done and then took it out before it was painted so I guess thats you...something about couldn't find the paint you wanted? Anyway, my car has been there for a month and they painted it yesterday so I can pick it up this coming week.
As for the manifolds, the only ones I know of are for the earlier EL blocks (just like the 1500 CVCC) port spacing.
The Dellorto kits I bought with the carbs for about $15 USD extra but overseas auto carries them for about $80 for both carbs. Don't know about jetting as I have not yet installed them but it sounds like Overseas Auto can get them.
Here is my manifold:

Kurt,
do you have any problems finding jets and replacement parts/rebuild kits for your Dellorto carbs?
Again thanks for the info. I emailed you a couple pictures of my 1200. Prep work was done by Andres. Paint work done by R1 Collision. Sorry wasn't happy with Andres as R1 had to fix a lot of problems prior to painting that Andres did not do.

H!!!! Talk to me! I have an '82 accord Canadian 8-valve head and will pay top $$$ for a dual carb manifold for it!!!!
I used US EK-1 pistons and got 1894cc's, I blueprinted the block, ported, polished & cc'd the head and am using a WebCam & a 2bbl Weber. I have a Hondo header & Maloof adj. cam pully ready to install also!!!

He is in Alberta. So you can stroke these things! When you build the stroker do you have to match the years or will an 83 Ek work with an 81 EL?
As for the ET ES mani's they will not work on any of the El's. The port spacing is similar to the earlier EL but the ports are closer together.

where are you located?

All Canadian EL non cvcc heads are not the same.There is the 79-81 version and the 82-83 version.The ES and ET dual carb set ups may work on the 82-83?I have a dual side draft intake for the 82-83 and a Hondo Header for the same.I also have a dual side draft intake for the 79-81.I was originally planning to build a 82-83 EL/EK stroker but now I am thinking I may go with a D16.If I go this route I will sell my EL stuff.What I don't need I will offer up here once I make up my mind.

kurt thanks for the info. i'll give it a try. as for the manifold, the my source has only one left. brand new. $350 CAD. i'm going to buy it as i'm sure it will be impossible to find. he says it was for the non cvcc head. i was impressed that he knew what i was talking about.
currently, i have a holley 5200 carb. same as the weber 32/36. at least that what all the resources say. just bought it off ebay for cheap. gotta find the right jets for it though as it is currently jetted for a 2.3 litre motor.

I have been looking for that manifold for years, I hava a set of Weber DCOE 40's ready to go! I want a manifold for my Canadian head!!I'll pay a finders fee if someone locates one that fits!!!!

Hey Kurt, could you email me with the prices you got for those manifolds? or Elv, if your looking to sell
By Kurt (207.6.118.139) on Friday, April 30, 2004 - 12:29 pm: |
I looked into the Prelude dual carbs (came on the ES motor). The manifold has completely different port spacing and the Kiehin (sp?) carbs they came with only work on that manifold...and as they have a million vaccuum lines they are a nightmare. Even the the Prelude fans of that era avoid them and switch up to a Weber set up.
Where did you source out the manifold? I know of two. One new one and one used one that are probably still for sale.
As for carbs, they are not as expensive as you think. I went with twin Dellorto DHLA 40's as the Weber's, Solex and Dellorto's work on the same manifolds. I paid $155 USD for a matched set that came with two rebuild kits. The trouble is you must have them shipped from Italy but surprisingly shipping only ran me $33 USD. They were bought off Ebay and the seller is an expert when it comes to these things. He even jetted them as close to the specs as he could. I emailed him tons and he has been extremely helpful. Gabrielle is his name and his email is:

the 83 prelude engine is completely different so any mounting will need some custom work, as to how much i don't know. this is something i have thought about doing but i am more interested in the performance aspect of it, if you do get this setup working perhaps you could report on how it performs?
By Elv (Elv) (24.69.255.203) on Thursday, April 29, 2004 - 11:50 pm: |
ok. i have managed to source out an manifold that will actually fit a canadian el head. this will allow me to put in twin sidedraft carbs such as weber 40 dcoe's. however, those carbs are expensive. so here's my question for all you guru's:
given that i have the manifold, will i be able to instead to bolt on the carbs from the honda prelude that came oem with side drafts? i think it was on the 1983 prelude.
any input or other options would be of great help. thanks.
