Enough to get it up to full on the dipstick
I think it's just under 4 quarts, something like 3.8 when you change the filter. Put in enough to get it around the full mark, start the engine, let it run for 10-15 seconds, then check the oil level again. You'll probably have to add a little more to take up the volume that's in the filter.

Hey guys,I just want to know how many quarts of engine oil for my '79 1200,cuz I'm going to change oil and filter.just want to make sure...Thanks.
