Oh, that hose!

Even when my tank is near bone dry I can only squeeze in a bit over 30 liters. I've Always wondered where the other couple of gallons are hiding....

I think the tank should hold a little over 10 gallons (US).

The small hose is for the overflow and should go to the coolant recovery tank which is a white (kind of) bottle mounted on the right side of the engine compartment just outboard of the battery. Shouldn't be too difficult to find one if you can find a wrecking yard that still has some early Hondas. It doesn't have to be from a 1st gen Civic. It's real easy once you have the tank and hose and see where it goes.

If you have coolant escaping past the radiator cap it may be time to replace the cap (5 or 6 bucks at a parts store). If that doesn't help with the overheating try looking inside the radiator filler. If the passages look like they're clogged up or restricted it may be you need a new radiator if you can find one. But you should go down to your local radiator shop and talk to them. There are options, although not always cheap ones.

Sorry, can't help with the bumper piece.

it holds 11 gallons US/9 gallons Imp./40 Litres. 6 gallons with a tank at 1/4 full sounds about right. there is a bit of a reserve at the botom so you can get to a gas station if the fuel level gets low..

The radiator tube that disappears into the firewall is the hose for the heater. there are two, one as a supply hose and the other is a return hose.. replace both because it's a miserable job :D .. last time I checked they were about $15/hose. the hose goes under the dash, so it's likely you'll have to remove some parts of the dash to get at it.. it also likes to spill coolant everewhere, so protect your carpet with some plastic or remove the carpet altogether. With the car off, set the temp to max on the dash, put a large oil catching pan under the rad. Drain the coolant into the pan by unscrewing the drain plug. open the radiator cap to speed up the process. Once it's empty fix the heater hoses and put it all back how you found it. loosen the bleed screw on the intake manifold and pour in a 4L bottle of premixed antifreeze.. once the antifreeze starts to come out of the bleed screw, tighten it down and fill the overflow bottle to the low mark. Put a new cap on the rad and see if the car turns over.. overheating may have damaged the head gasket, drive it around a bit say a few miles if it can do it) and then pull the dipstick once the engine cools off. the oil should be clean and free of water.. if you see white stuff on the bottom of the dipstick, you need to have a head gasket looked at, otherwise, you're probably okay. Just watch the overflow bottle for the next little while for oil in the coolant (black/brown stuff in the green/yellow stuff :) )

Hope that helps.

first
how many gallons does my car hold?
1979 cvcc
i can only put 6 gallons in it before it tops off.
is this right?

second
my radiator tube that is coming straight off the engine (not the big one, the little one) is
loose. my car overheated and the leak was from there where it attaches with the clamp. if i have to replace that hose- where the heck does it go?
it just disappears into the back wall of the engine compartment. Is this a pain in the butt
to fix?

thanks very much!
ps looking for the FRONT (center) rubber bumper part for the front bumper. there are normally 2.
mine fell off when washing the car, it had been
rigged on badly. does anyone have one?

i guess thats 3 questions.
