Ok you guys are sweating the $6.00 paint..been there! The truth is no paint is going to hold up like exahaust coating. My header was about $175 to have it coated inside with a heat insulating coat and out side with a gray protective coat. The header makes sightly more power because of better thermal insulation and the coating more than trippled the life of the header over what can be expected with the best 1200F paint.
Its false economy to paint the headers... thats why I ordered mine unpainted and they went directly to the coating place.
You guys with paint will be looking for a new set in a few years but the coated headers will still be like new. There is no debating this its fact.

I find that 1200 degree F paint works really well on exhausts. it usually has some kind of ceramic in it so that it just discolors, but still holds together for rust protection on the outside.. Don't think I'd have the balls ot spray it on the inside. I've used duplicolor and tremclad high heat (1200 degree not 600) paints to good effect..

I thought the high-temp paints used for wood stoves and such would work for them. Not as good as coating, but better than nothing.

Who knows what I will do with the car. Dunno if it will even be streetable as far as DEQ purposes. Then again I have no idea on when I'll complete/fix it. I do know I'd like to autocross it and do some driving events.

Yeah still got the parts, and shell. Looking to drop a stock EB2 or 3 into it sometime and fix the cage. Then put together the stroker with the header, cam, carbs. Wonder what I will need to do as far as the valvetrain for this cam tho...

PS. Don I still need to get down there for the flywheel. Also, want to come up for Champ cars or Le Mans? How about you Ted? We should all meet up again.

I would have it coated not painted you not going to get another one any time soon. Paint is a monster it burns off and header rusts real fast. I had a new set of Hooker headers that I tried to paint in a year of limited use the header had many rust pits but my 1200 header was coated inside and out and its as good as new no rust. Now if you slam the car and use the header as a bump stop ....:)
Thats another header distroyer

That looks very similar to a Mugen header I sold to a fella here in Sydney a while back that was designed for an EB3 shell. I decided that having those pipes hanging down was going to be disastrous with all the speedbumps here in Sydney.

What a kick a$$ header Frito! Nice score. Clean it up, paint it and voila! Instant eye catcher. What I think is so cool about your header, is it reminds me of my '79 Honda 550Four with the Kerker Header. Don, he still has the Mugen cam and twin Dellorto's. I should know because he would not sell them to me. Frito, do you still have the 1300 bottom end?

By Don (199.2.139.170) on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 - 06:55 pm:

So Edgar...
Thats just like the Jackson I sold Your going to have to spin the engine to use the big primary diameter. Look inside the collector, mine was a kind of merge collector stuck inside the regular one. There was some notes that came with the car I dont know if they all came that way. Do you still have the hot rod cam and Delorto manifold?
