Sounds a lot like my 77 CVCC. I finally figured I would do a huge tune-up (it probably needed it anyways). I changed the dist cap, the plugs to NGK, NGK wires, Accel ignition coil, cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner spray, brand new K&N air filter, and a new fuel filter and pump. It helped tremedously! However...I still have problems with the car wanting to overheat and stall when I come to stops. From what I have been told here, it is probably a head gasket leak which is fairly common on the CVCC models. ONe thing I did find was that after I put back on my rear seat, somehow the fuel lines would get kinked restricting the flow. I carefully wrapped the fuel lines in cleam circles to prevent this.

i totally seem to agree with adrian in that you should start with the most basic things first, and work along with the method of elmination of the easyest things first, this would help to pinpoint the problem

sounds like your carb fuel mixture is on the rich side, as it bawgs when you try to accelerate from a stop. Mid-range rpm and top end rpm is not really affected, only the low end rpm range.

try turning back the fuel mixture screw, (lean it out) and test drive to see if there is any difference.

Well i check the spark plugs it sparks and i got it running with a new fuel pump and i also clean the tank but at first it ran nice drives smooth and i have been having electrical problems maybe from the rust dont know got to check it out it starts smooth but it feels like the pump isnt push enough pounds to the carb because when i drive slow it chokes back or dies this is when it is warmed up and choke is closed ? i changed two brand new mitisbishi fuel pump still does the same any suggestion thank you for the help so far you guys are great

if you have gas getting to the carb your pump is working, put the motor on TDC, make sure it is in time, check the points....and check the spark, if you put starter fluid in and it did not crank you are probably not getting fire to the plugs, just for giggles, is the wire [blue if I remember] from the coil to the side of the dizzy connected? Like Adrian said, start with the easy stuff first, that is usually where the problem is. Oh, and where are you located?

Have you got the direction of rotation right? if you havent the timing could be miles out and geting worse as you play with it. Honda motors rotate anticlockwise unlike every other motor on the planet! Are sure you are calculating from this point of view.

hugh

Why can't you simply check to see if you have spark rather than mucking around with the carb and fuel pump and stuff or talking about new coils?
Just pull an ingition lead off, stick a screwdriver in the end and place it so there is a small gap between it and some metal part (e.g. the rocker cover) or put a plug in the end of the lead and rest it on the rocker cover. Crank the engine over and watch for a spark. If you get no spark, then you start looking at why ... dead coil, bad points etc. If you get spark you can assume it's not an ignition problem (unless the timing is WAY off) and start looking at the fuel system.
Finding an engine problem is a process of elimintation. Start with the dead easy things first before you leap in and do stuff you might not need to.

Still hasnt start i havent check the spark plugs to see if it gives spark well i pretty much did all the gas stuff iam going to get another fuel pump just to make sure its pumping enough psi iam using choke 2 between 35f-95f i tried starting fluid stuff still doesnt work new oil too it cranks over timing belt still ok iam planning to just rebuild the carb or either get a new ignition coil ? any suggestiong thanks

If you have leaking gas, don't try to check for spark near the leaking gas, cleanup the gas first. First hand experience!

Where by the carb? Does it try to fire? If not take a plug and short it to the block, see if it fires.

well today i clean up all the gas lines with an air compressor spray at high psi and got the gas going flush the tank tested the fuel pump and add a new filter gas is goign to the carburator but their is a leak when i step on the gas by the carburator wondering whats the problem and add new cap, rotor, spark plug, still doesnt start ?

Do you hear that sound right when you turn the key to "on"? The fuel pumps are somewhat noisy, and they do make an intermittent click. If you don't hear it when you turn the key, you might have a bad ignition switch that doesn't give power to the fuel pump circuit when the key is on. Have you tried something like starting fluid? How far are you pulling the choke out when you start the car?

By bruce (4.159.56.201) on Monday, June 14, 2004 - 06:18 am:

Gas, fire, air....if there was gas in the tank it is bad. fuel pump is under back seat behind driver, get some gumout carb cleaner and spray the heck out of the carb, make sure you have spark to the plugs.
