Thanks. I replaced the starter on my Civic when I first got it about 2 years ago now (Pep Boys had it in stock for $44!), but now the engine doesn't want to turn over anymore when it's hot. I figure I'd keep this one and some tools in the car for a just-in-case situation.

Yes, it will. These are the gear reduction nippon denso's. They are the starter to have if you want strong starting power, even if you have high compression. The other huge one's we all know, were Hitachi straight drive starter. THEY DON'T LAST! Hope this helps....Rick

I would guess no but it may be best to email the seller and ask them.
I think some items are labeled 79 as the second generation Civics debuted in 79 and I've seen some people mis-label an 80 Civic a 79. I know I saw a set of taillights that were clearly off a 1980 Civic but were labeled as having been pulled off a 1979 wrecked Civic.
Keep your eye on eBay though. I have seen the correct starter listed just recently. Another may pop up again.

I know it says it will in the auction title, but in the list of cars it fits, it only mentions the '81-'83 models.

I'd rather go to a local auto parts store, but all the ones by me can't get starters anymore.
