If nothing else seems to work, go back to the basics. There are only so many things that effect over-heating. Have the radiator checked at a reputable shop. I spent three weeks chasing an over-heating problem, after doing a rebuild for a customer. The customer assured me he had the radiator checked and flushed one month before he brought the car in for the rebuild. After replacing the headgasket twice, the water pump twice and the thermostat three times, I took the radiator to a good shop and had them rod it out, not just flush it. Result, no more overheating problems. Consider replacing it, with the cost of another engine rebuild if it blows, it would be cheap insurance.

Does the fan kick in?? could be the thermostat at the bottom of the radiator is not working.

Unplug the two wires from the sensor (bottom right) of the rad. & plug them together. Just to hotwire the fan to see if it works.

If the fan spins, you have a problem with the sensor.

You can leave the wires plugged together, but the fan runs when ever the key is in the ignition.

You can extend those wires to a switch on the dash , but then you have to install the switch in one of the blanks, & remember to turn it on & off.

Or you can get a variable thermostat installed as I think the rad sensors are nolonger being made.

Just a thought :)

Have you checked if the cooling system was bled properly? Is the thermostat opening correctly? has the head gasket sealed properly ?

Get the system pressure tested, toss the thermostat for a newie (should have been chucked after all that cooling suystem work anyhow) and bleed the system properly.

hugh

hi folks,
i got shortie back and 750 dollars later (dont yell at me) she is running great. what was done:
head was remachined, carb was rebuilt, new water pump, new accelerator pump. radiator was flushed and filled.

ok, so why is she running so damn hot? Im talking
about the temp gauge 3/4 up while at the drive thru at mcdonalds tonight (only like 60 degrees here outside). My mechanic told me heat is deadly, i am freaky watching the gauge and up it went today, twice. should i add more coolant?

i am bummed, i live in la and sometimes it takes up to 8 minutes to get a left turn chance. i can think of a hundred creative ways to drive, but i cant have an aneyurism watching that gage.
anybody?
