I used an EK1 cam in my EL head w/ no problems. I always wondered though if eliminating the extra mass from the auxilary lobe would make any difference as far as allowing the engine to rev a little quicker. Anyway, I have a .420 lift and 296 duration cam, which may be a little to extreme for the street, but then again, I may not have had it dialed in that well.

Yeah, the auxiliary lobe on the cvcc cam just happily spins around making contact with nothing...
By Kurt (207.6.122.14) on Thursday, July 22, 2004 - 03:11 pm: |
272° duration. Hey Justin any idea what the shadbolt cam I have is at?
So the CVCC cam works in a non CVCC motor...even with the extra valve in the CVCC head?

the price before tax is $165, cam to about $188 total. i'm no expert on cam specs but what he wrote down for me was 272 degrees duration, .413 lift. there were three available grinds for this cam, stock, the 272 that i got and one more with more duration
you can call him, he is very willing to chat about anything!

The CVCC cam will work in the EL head. No modifications required, it just drops in. Dan

By Kurt (207.6.122.14) on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - 02:46 pm: |
exactly...thats why I left the head on the car
You may be able to get a cam through Shadbolt, Colt Cams or Web Cams (I think thats the place) but I don't know for sure. There are a ton of these motors floating around BC though so I should be able to find some for you.
The local high school where I am had a few of these motors as well but they may have gotten rid of them. Leave me with it for a week or so and I will let you know.

Went to Pick a Part the other day. They used to be famous for their old stuff but unfortunately they have been crushing things. There is only one 2nd gen Civic left and one first gen Accord.
Bottom line is no usable heads at the moment. There is a 79 there but the cam is gone. They ask about $50 for a head but may let this one go cheaper because of the missing cam. Let me know and I can pull it.

Kurt-
That sounds super! Let me know when you have one availble and I'll send you a check for the cost of the head and the shipping/brokage fees.
Thanks,
Tom

I'm in Hope, BC. There is a large werecker in Chilliwack that had a ton of them. I say a ton as I was there about a week ago and they sent some of their older stuff to be crushed. There are still some there though. I am likely going there today to scoop an intermittent wipwe set up (I forgot tools last time) so I will get the price. The head should be cheap its just the shipping that may run around $30 USD. Will let you know.
