I agree with andrew, think of how badly the car's balance will be upset if all the weight is up front. i'd hate to come into the end of a straight ready to corner and blow the turn or get the rear end so light as to get it so squirely that all you end up doing is drag racing down the straight because your cornering speed will be so terrible. Again, if you're drag racign I guess it would be understandable to do that kind of swap.

Remember, only my opinion...

The EB, EN and EW series engines are all very light, as they have alloy blocks. Anything with an iron block and/or a huge twin cam head is obviously going to be quite heavy in comparison. Putting something like a B16 into a 70's civic is a pretty good way to guarantee terrible understeer.

How much difference in weight is there between the engine types, just out of curiosity? The early blocks are cast iron correct? Is it the same w/ the later series engines?

I wouldn't worry about a CG change when you drop a B16 in there! Crud with that weight of engine in there you wont notice the gas tank position at All.

you do not need to drop the tank, there is heaps of room for even a 3" exhaust following the standard route. If you move the tank you will need to deal with the rear suspension structure and the wheel well in the boot to take advantage of the "so called" extra space. the tank is no lower than the floor of the pasenger compartment, are you planning to move the floor up? Put the shell on it's side to build the exhaust with mandrel bent tube, it will be out of the way and allow for all the travel and lowering you want. also you be moving the weight of the fuel from it's ideal position in a handeling sense, you will not be able to put a fuel cell anywhere else without moving the c of g of the car up, bad move in a car with naturally balanced handeling

hugh

I am thinking about swapping in a fuel cell into my 75. Has anyone heard of this being done to a first gen?
It will be pumping to a newer D16 or B16. Not sure yet. Need the space back there for exhaust and ground clearance.
